Are There Contact Lenses That Never Need to Be Replaced?
Whatès the longest yoyou can wear a contact lens? I know there are some that are daily disposables, and some where yoyou can wear as you care for them over weeks. But what is the longest a certain type of contact lens can be worn? Because I want to create a new product for contact lenses that you never need to replace (just for a project, not for real), but I’m not sure if these already exist somewhere. I don’t think they do, but I’m not sure. So are there contact lenses that never need to be replaced?

The "permanent" kind of contact lenses is what we call Rigid Gas Permeable (or RGP, rigid, "hard") lenses. They’re made of slightly flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the eyes. They are more durable than disposable lenses with a relatively long life and they are what we call extended-wear contacts.
That said, "extended-wear" in the world of contact lenses means 1 to 2 years max! They can still be wearable after that period, but keeping the same lenses longer is silly.
Two years is the longest you can wear RGP lenses; and you won’t find any lens more durable than this in the market today.
Yeah. Its called Lasik Eye Surgery.
ya, they’re called eyes.
I don’t think so, but I wear monthly disposables, I can’t do the touching the eye stuff so my optician changes them for every month
there are lenses by acuvue that you can wear for a month straight without taking them out.
There are daily replacement, bi-weekly replacement, monthly replacement and yearly replacement contact lenses. If you’re looking for something more permanent, you need to look into Visian ICL implants of intraocular implants like those used after cataract surgery.
Before you start creating your product I suggest doing research about why the industry has strained away from yearly replacement and why daily replacement contact lenses are considered the healthiest for the cornea. Good luck!
Well no way, ALL contact lenses need to be replaced sometimes because they get prone to infection otherwise BUT the longest I have found are
all the lenses at http://www.cococontacts.com last for 90days which makes them well worth buying because they are so affordable and look fantastic!
