At My Recent Eye Exam, I Found That My Vision Had Improved. How Can This Be?

I have been using contact lenses with a power of -7.5 for the last 4 years. I recently had another exam and I have been prescribed a -7.0. How could this have happened?

There can be some fluctuations in your refractive error over time. Yours right now is a half of 1 diopter, so not a significant change. You’re still really, really nearsighted.

It can actually happen to people with myopia and hyperopia and rarely astigmatism. My neighbor had both myopia and astigmatism, -1,00 and -0,75, and it improved to 0,75 and 0,25.

It happens from time to time. Also keep in mind that refractions are not 100%. Eye exams are mostly subjective, so you are really the one choosing your script. The refraction just gives the Doc a general idea of where to begin, then from there it’s on you mostly. Try the contacts out and see how they work for you, if you feel like you’re seeing less clearly, go back in for a follow up.
