Can GOS 2 Be Used As a Contact Lens Prescription?

Or will I need to visit my optician to obtain a separate contact lens prescription in order to buy my lenses from Costco? (they’re a little cheaper there, compared to my optician)

Note: I have all the measurements of my current lenses to hand, would it be sufficient to go with those and the GOS 2 form and buy them?
Yes it is a UK thing. General Opthalmic Services. There are several forms in this ‘series’

Yeah GOS forms operate only in the United Kingdom, a GOS2 merely has a persons prescription on. As for the question, no a GOS 2 voucher is not a valid contact lens prescription. Because contact lenses sit closer to the eye, the prescription itself will vary, usually not by a whole lot, but still enough sometimes to caused blurred vision or even give you headaches. No credible high street optician will, under any circuimstances give you contacts with your glasses prescription. You need to obtain a seperate prescription. However be careful with buying contacts, especially if it’s your first time, some may not be suitable for your eyes, and of course you wont sometimes get the aftercare such as contact lens fittings with places like Costco.

It is against the law for someone to supply contact lenses from only a GOS2. Contact lenses can only be supplied if your eyes have been checked to see if the specific brand of contact lenses are safe for your eyes, to make sure that the vision is clear, that they don’t rub on your eyes or that there hasn’t been any change to the health of your eyes that you don’t know about but could put them at risk when wearing contact lenses.
Costco might be able to do a contact lens consultation for you if they have an Optometrist on site. It is far better to have the contact lens check from the company that supplies your lenses, they can often supply you with a few spare lenses or try you out with new lenses more easily and help you if your eyes suddenly have a problem.
Also the prescription on the GOS2 is often different to the contact lens prescription.
    I hope this helps
