Can People with an Astigmatism Wear Plano Colored Contacts?

I was considering buying some Plano contacts for a costume I’m making. I have an astigmatism though, so would Plano contacts be dangerous or uncomfortable to wear?

No they will not be dangerous or uncomfortable. It will just mean that you will not see as clearly as if you ordered toric colored lenses. Freshlook makes toric (astigmatism) colored lenses

If you are purchasing the contacts for costume purposes then I would certainly purchase Plano (which means there is no power either + or – that would correct near or farsightedness, measured in diopters) rather than the much more expensive Toric lenses (which will require a special eye exam for astigmatic lenses and a fitting). Therefore, if you are a current/previous contact lens wearer the OD/Optician can easily fit from the various brands/colors of colored lenses that are available without the added expense of an additional eye exam and the additional cost of Toric lenses.

Contact Lenses are a medical device and should be fit by an eye-care professional. Improper care, cleaning, failure to insert/remove properly, or wearing them longer than is indicated for the brand/material could be dangerous. These procedures are quite simple and if practiced properly contact lenses are very safe.

A note- if you are wearing OPAQUE lenses (a matrix pattern that covers the iris of the eye with the ability of changing the color of brown eyes) or a PATTERN (tiger, cat, etc.) your vision could be impeded when your pupil dilates so that the colored pattern is in your field of vision.

Soft contact lenses are generally quite comfortable, however, normally it is recommended to start by wearing them a few hours and adding hours over time so they don’t feel "dry" etc…… after wearing them for a few days or a few weeks most people find them very comfortable, with the exception of a poor fit or if they are worn improperly (too long, while sleeping, inside-out)
