Contact Lens Prescription 0 Sph Means No Correction?

I have astigmatism and recently ordered contact lenses with an sph of +1.00. They do not work at all. I looked at my old lenses which did work, and they have an sph of 0.00. While the CYL (-1.75) and AX (20) are the same for both pairs. Does this make sense, an sph of 0.00 being able to correct my astigmatism? I thought the sph of 0.00 meant not correction…
It is extremely blurry with the +1.00 when looking more than 4 feet in front of me.

I ordered +1.00 because it was written on my prescription. However the contact lenses the optometrist gave me had a sph of 0.00. Must have been an error writing the prescription.

Thank you

The Cyl power is your astigmatism correction. The sphere is your distance or near correction. The plus in front of your spherical correction is magnification meaning you are hyperopic or farsighted. Most times if you go from plano (or no power) in the sphere to a +1.00 it will take some adjustment. This may be way too strong for you? Is it blurry for distance and near?

Sphere power isn’t going to give you the correction you need.

0.00 does mean no power, but you have power in the Cylinder portion, not the sphere.

You have to be wearing toric lenses for that astigmatism.

Why would you have ordered + 1.00 sphere ?
