Contact Lenses ?

I’ve had glasses since I was 9 & hate them, I’m now 14 and am wondering is it safe to wear contact lenses? I’ve heard it can get stuck in your eye and move to the back of it :| and also saw a report that said this:

Don’t switch to contact lenses. They can damage your eyes.
If you do switch to contact lenses make sure you keep away from heaters, furnaces, stoves, the hot sun, boiler rooms, hot kitchens, saunas, etc as extreme heat can cause the contact lens to become fused to your eye and this can detach your retina. You don’t want a detached retina do you?

that really worries me. Also, is it hard to put in your eye? I’m not too bothered by touching my eye.

Yeah it’s safe. :) Some people start wearing them when they are 10. I actually prefer contact lenses to glasses, you can wear your hair different and down without the pain of glasses, plus you dont get that embarrassing mark on your nose. If you’re really scared of your eyes, think about it this way, the contact is whats touching your eye, your finger shouldnt at all. and you dont poke out your eye when you put them in. you tap it in. There are actually lenses you can wear to bed for 30 days! All those rumors about the lenses rolling to the back of your eyes and getting lost in your body is FALSE! I’ve had contacts for 2 years and the only bad thing thats happened is that they fall out in water parks, and its not that bad. And the whole retina getting detatched thing is very unlikely. You don’t hear on the news "Woman’s retina detatched by contact lenses!" Don’t worry. :D

I have word contacts since I was 14 or 15 and have been for five years now. I have never had it get stuck in my eye. I have been in hot kitchens, a sauna, a hot tub, cooked stuff, and gone out on hot days with them with no problem at all. I have also not had an eye infection or even an irritation in years.
They are hard to put in for the first week or so but you get the hang of it. Now it feels as easy as putting glasses on.
All you have to do is make sure you change the lenses when the doctor tells you you should, keep them in their case (closed) while you are not wearing them with contact solution, rinse them with the solution when you take them out and keep your lens case clean.

It’s absolutely safe! I was in your same situation and have been wearing contacts for nearly a year now.

The whole getting stuck in your eye thing is a normal worry, but it never really happens. Sure it can be finicky and sometimes doesn’t want to go in/get out, but in the end it always does.

As for difficulty, once you get the hang of it it’s not a big deal at all.

If you really are worried about it, just go and have a talk with your eye doctor. They’ll straighten out everything for you.

That sounds like a lame and unprofessional editorial, meaning some idiot probably wrote it. Contacts are not going to go to the back of your eye if they fit properly, which will be determined by your doctor. Do not go to some store and buy contacts out of the box, get them from your doctor. or with your eyecare provider. The only big issues that can come from wearing contacts is if you don’t clean them well, if you wear them for months at a time, or if you sleep with them. DO NOT sleep with them. My friend slept with his on for a few days without ever taking them out, he ended up having the top layer of his eye scraped off because the contact dried. Contacts are made up of water and plastic, mostly water. Having them on too long dries them out, leaving the plastic which will stick. on a few plane rides i did have to have them on for like a full 24 hours, and when i took them out, my eye felt cold and like onions were around them. You definitely need to clean them EVERYDAY.
Contacts are completely safe as long as your doctor says they are for your eyes. My sister can’t wear contacts, not even colored ones for fun, because her eyes are a little too big (wow, i know).
Other than that, you’ll be fine.

it’s really different for everyone. if your eyes a sensitive, then it might not be such a good idea. my eyes for example can’t handle contacts they get irritated and i do know someone who tore their retina while removing their contact.. but honestly i also know people who have been wearing contacts for years with no problems. you’ll just have to try them to see if they work for you. i really doubt you’ll tear your retina though, so you don’t have to be scared.
