Do You Have to Get Another Eye Exam for Contacts Every Year?

I got my eye exam for contacts last year at wal mart. Do I need to get another full contact exam to get another prescription? Will it cost the same even though they know my measurements?

I’m debating whether to go to wal mart or eye masters…

The prescription is good for 1 year. You can save on eyewear and exams through 2020vision4less. Look it up on the internet.

I am not sure of the prices. I do, however, get mine re checked every year becuase my eyes can change, as could yours or anybody’s. We are not in s perpetual state of unchange. This is why there are guidelines and laws about contacts. They are a medical device that is put into your body. Complications from contact lense wear have been known to cause issues that can and have led to blindness. The FDA does take this seriously. If you just go and get lenses without your eye health exam, and without your yearly corneal evaluation, and then just order your contacts with an expired RX, you could cause yourself some dammage. The Contact lense corneal evaluation It is not just to retake measurements, but also to check the health and viability of the cornea to make sure you are healthy enough to continue contact lense wear! Only trained people can see if your eyes are doing ok! The small cost of the Evaluation is worth dodging the costs of trying to save your vision.

Eyeglasses prescriptions are usually good for 1-2 years depending on the prescriber. Contact lens prescriptions are usually good for a year.

EDITED: I was wrong, they are good for 1 year only. I know a site where you can order them without a valid prescription, I’ve used them twice. So if you really don’t want to pay for a new exam this year, you could get away with it, but it would not be recommended.

When you go to a doctor you expect to pay even if you were there a month ago.
Some people think you have to pay an optometrist only once during your lifetime.
