Do You Need a Prescription to Buy Colored Contacts?

I dont need glasses or contacts and was wanting to try out colored contacts. I’ve heard they were itchy/make your eyes red. And that colored contacts don’t come in different shapes to fit your eyeball like regular ones do?

No. In fact, you can find advertisements in some magazines. I know that sometimes Cosmopolitan has a coupon. Fresh Look advertises them.

Technically, you don’t need a prescription to buy colored contacts. BUT you will not find an eye doctor who will recommend that you do this. Colored contacts do come in different sizes to fit the front of your eye and this is why you need to have a professional contact lens fitting (even if you don’t need glasses). You really have to be careful with this because these "non-prescription" contacts that you can get online; they aren’t regulated by the FDA and they can really do some pretty serious damage to your eyes if they don’t fit properly. If in doubt, the next time you’re in for your annual eye exam, talk to your eye doctor about it.
