Does Changing Contact Lenses Affect Which Optician I Can Use?
I am very new to the lense "community." Anyway, I have a good deal with my local Optician, in which I pay astanding order each month to cover my checks, lenses & lotions. However, for ethical reasons, I want to choose a different brand of contact lenses, and solutions. Do I have to arrange this through the Opticians, or can I buy them of my own back? And I assume I can still remain with them for the tests and check ups and so on?

If your eye doctor has a certain brand of contacts prescribed, you cannot order anything but that kind, with your correct measurements/correction power. You’d need to back for another scrip or add-on if you would like to try a different. The eye doctor will be able to decide if the ones you want are or are not suitable for you. If he says they are not, he/she will explain to you why he/she feels that way.
If your prescription is still current, you probably won’t have to do another exam.
Also, FYI…you can order your contacts online, at sites like 1800contacts.com if you have a copy of your prescription. You can still stay with your current eye doctor even if you do that; I order my contacts online but have had the same eye doctor for quite some time. They shouldn’t get mad just because you choose to order your contacts elsewhere; it’s your money after all. Oftentimes they are a LOT cheaper online than at the eye doctor’s offices.
As long as your prescription is current, you can buy the contacts/solutions from whoever you want… Sam’s, Lenscrafters, Pearle Vision, whatever. And yes you can still remain with your current Optician for tests and check ups. I use mine just for that, and I buy my contacts at Sam’s because they are cheaper there.
