Does Wearing Contact Lenses Make Your Eyes Dry?

If you wear contact lenses a lot, do your eyes become progressively dryer? And not just dry when you have them in, but do the actual eyes get more dry?

Your eyes tend to dry out with the lenses, especially if you wear the for a very long time. But if you regularly have a rest period from them, your eyes will be ok. Now, you should ask your doctor to prescribe you the right kind of lenses for you. I changed mine not long ago because these ones demand less liquid than the previous ones.

yEs thats why when you wear contacts the doctor should have gave you eye drops and your suppose to use them every 4 hrs …I should say or when you feel the need 2

Yeah it happens, just put in drops that will give them moisture. If they become increasingly bad, go to your optomistrist. It maybe due to allergies or something, in which he will give you special drops.

I personnaly don’t have that problem,
If you take care of them you shouldn’t have problem
If you do get dry eyes, put some visine, there is some just for contact users

Your eyes do dry out frequently that is why they make saline eye solutions and artificial tears. I don’t think it makes your eyes drier when you don’t have them in but you are more sensitive to drying effect of the air and maybe you are dehydrated.

i dont think so…im getting contacts and i hope thats not the case =/ there are also O.K. contacts-the really cool ones. you wear them at night when you sleep, take them off when you wake up, and you have clear vision! so you dont have to worry about the contact lenses falling off or burning your eyes(figure of speech xD). if you dont like day time contacts, you can get those. only they cost more .

Eyes usually lubricate eyes naturally and will
all so compensate by producing extra moisture
for foreign objects in the eye.

yes this is one of the most probable side effects of contact lenses.
it is more probale among whom, that wears hard lenses.
u can stop wearing them for a while (2 month) and after that use soft ones

my eyes dry out with the lens on… but becomes perfectly normal once i apply eye drops or take it out… btw, if u’re planning to get eye drops, get those special kinds for contact lens…

  • Kate M says:

Could be, try to use some tears with your contacts and if you feel your eyes very dry you can use at night an eye gel that’s much better than droops.
    Hope this helps …
