Question by bulce g: Why my eye is red after wearing contact lens?
My eye turn red, after few hours wearing the lens.
It’s NOT pain or itchy or uncomfortable wearing it or after it been removed .
Changed to new lens, new casing, but did not change the brand & it still happen.
It need a day plus to cure the redness.
Why is this happening?

Best answer:

Answer by lolvark
In some cases, you can get an eye inflammation from wearing contact lenses. That would be reason to see your doctor right away. (It happened to me and I will never again be able to wear them).

It could also be just irritation that could be cured by not wearing your contacts for a few days and using over-the-counter eyedrops for eye irritation.

Just be sure to see an eye doctor if it does not go away. You may have to switch to a different brand or different contact drops.

Question by m173627: How can I tell my prescription from my contact lens boxes?
I want to maybe get a pair of prescription goggles for the swim team. There are a bunch of numbers on my contact box, but the prescription goggles only have an option to choose the “power”.
What’s the correlation? And what if my eyes are slightly different from each other?
The numbers are labled:
BC
DIA
D
Cyl/AXIS

How do I convert these values into a “power”?

Best answer:

Answer by Footprintz
D will be the power…something like – 2.50

On many of the better swim goggles you can get a different power in each eye.

If you can’t on the one you are looking at , go with the lowest power in both eyes. Like if one eye is – 2.50 and the other is – 2.75…go with – 2.50 on both.

Best answer:

Answer by Footprintz
The right eye is always your right eye.

Even when someone looks at you, your right eye is still your right eye, even though we see it on the left.

Your right arm is always your right arm…same thing.

Answer by Alexandra S
It goes into “your right”. The box in which the doctor marked “right” you put into YOUR right eye.And so the one he marked “left” goes into your left eye.

So when you put them back in the case, make sure they’re in the right side. When you take it out of your right eye, but it in the side of the case marked “R”
and so on with your left.

Answer by GingerinLV
If you don’t have the box still, and only the flat pack (the pakage that the lens is in), the expiration date should be right on the label. It should look something like this: 2011/09.

Question by Sameeha: How do I know im wearing my contact lens the right way up?
My lens sometimes turns inside out..which sometimes leads to a lot of itching or blurry vision. Is there anything that wud help me figure which the right side up is?

Best answer:

Answer by Nikkers
If the edge of the lens is curling inwards, it’s the right way up. If it’s curling outwards, it’s inside out.
Apart from that, if the lens is inside out, it immediately feels uncomfortable.

Hope this helps.

Answer by Satan Said Dance
When you get ready to put your contact in, hold it on the tip of your finger as usual, and bring it eye level. When you look at it from the side, it should look like a perfect bowl. If it’s inside out, it will create an odd shape with the ends sort of curling over. Once you try this a couple of times, you’ll easily be able to tell when your contact is ‘inside out’.

Answer by RolloverResistance
If your lens is inside-out, you will see the turned-out edge when the lens is on your finger (in the position when it’s ready to be placed on your eye). It’s like a “flip” in a woman’s hairdo.

Question by qwerty!!: Need to convert a eyeglass prescription to an contact lens prescription?
What would my contact lens prescription be approximately?

____Sph___Cyl___Axis
R___T.25__T.50___90
L___T.75___.25___ 85
__________(^This part has a o with a – over the top)
Please help =)

Best answer:

Answer by Jaspreet
Cyl- it is necessary if your lenses correct for astigmatism. Measured in diopters, it tellsyou how much astigmatism you have. Negative sign means myopic astigmatism and plus sign means hyperopic astigmatism.
Axis- A measurement necessary for contact lenses that correct for astigmatism. It indicates the orientation of cylinder in lens in order to compensate for cornea’s oval rather than round shape. It is expressed in degrees.

Don’t know about sph.

Answer by princeidoc
you cant just covert. must have curvature measurements & have a contact lens Rx. need to go back & get “fitted”

Answer by J
Yes. I can do that. But first I must know your complete eyeglass prescription, the size and shape of your eye, what kind of lenses you are expecting, (hard, soft, etc.).
Do you think that the measurements of your eyes would have anything to do with what lens is prescribed?
If you come into my office, we can try a T.25 in the right eye and a T.75 in the left.
Maybe your doctor would tell you what a
T.25 lens is.

I currently wear Toric contact lenses and have been for years. My prescriptions for both eyes are different but I have astigmatism in both. In the last year or so my left contact has started wearing out a lot faster than the right one. It will also have a hard time staying on my cornea and it tends to not stay sharp.
Question by j: Is it okay to switch my contact lens solution inbetween the period of my one month lenses?
I am currently using my monthly contact lenses and it has not reached its 30 days period yet but my solution ran out, and so I bought another brand. Is it okay to just switch? Will it hurt?

Best answer:

Answer by MsParisa
Nah,,your fine.

Answer by Hillbert
Another brand or another bottle?
Another bottle of the same brand is definitely okay; that’s kind of a no-brainer.
Another brand makes things tricky; we usually recommend you don’t, but it’s really hard to time these things. As long as it’s something similar — i.e. a rub-and-rinse multipurpose soft lens cleaner — it should be fine, just double-check the instructions! You might find, though, that you have some irritation or dryness with the new solution; that’s because different brands of solutions and contacts interact differently, and it’s mostly a trial-and-error process, even for those of us who work with the products every day.
In any case, it won’t be painful, and worst-case scenario, it gives you trouble, you go to your eye doctor, and they figure out a better solution for you to use.

Answer by AJ Pfeiffer
Yes it’s ok to switch solution brands and no it’s not going to hurt.

Answer by Footprintz
To change the brand of solutions you should do what is called ” purging” the lenses.

Put your lenses in the new solution for 2 hours, then throw it out, then again for 2 hours, and throw it out…then again for the night.

By morning, all traces of the old solution will be gone from the lenses and you won’t have any problems.

Sometimes it can cause a lot of irritation if that isn’t done first. Many solutions can cause an interaction with the different ingredients.

Question by : Why might my contact lens be causing double vision?
I just got a new prescription. Everything seems perfect except sometimes the left eye sees blurry and slightly double vision. I have astigmatism. Does it mean the lens is fitting improperly? Like I said, it’s only sometimes.

Best answer:

Answer by Frank
The lens is not fitting properly, causing blurriness. If it were just the wrong strength, it woudl be blurry all the time.

The curvature of your contact lens might not be matching the curvature of your eye (the base curve, or BC). Think of a big head wearing a small hat. This could cause your contacts to not settle in properly, causing intermittant blurriness.

When your vision in one eye gets blurry, your brain has trouble combining the images from your two eyes into one image. Eventually, this will get better because your brain will start ignoring the image from one eye (suppression), but don’t be fooled by the seeming improvement – this is a bad thing.

You should be re-fitted. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get the fit right.
