I understand that it doesn’t matter what your vision prescription is..if you can tolerate the contact in your eye you can wear them. I’ve worn contacts for 20 yrs. with no problem. I have astigmatism as well. This is a uneven curved surface of your eye. I started with hard contacts. You don’t want to go there! Then I switched to extended wear and now wear disposable. All contacts are safe as long as you follow the proper handling instructions. Colored lenses are the same as regular.. just change the color of your eye. I like my eye color so just use a "handling tint" so they are not completely clear and I can see them better when putting in or taking out. Since the day I first started wearing contacts they have made great improvement to them. All kinds are available to fit the wearers needs. Like extended wear, disposable , & special ones make just for people with astigmatism(more expensive, of course). They even make bifocal contacts now..Imagine that!! I’ve never used a special contact for my astigmatism..probably should, but the only thing that happens with regular contacts and astigmatism is a slightly less crisp vision..just a tad more blurring than if you had special ones. Hope this helps and best of luck!! The eye doc can tell you all the details as well.Have a good one!!

The cyl (-0.50) is the amount of your astigmatism and just about everybody that wears glasses or contacts has at least some astigmatism. You would be a great candidate for contacts and you should not need contact lenses for astigmatism with such a small amount of cylinder. Yes colored contacts are safe but you will see better with clear contacts.

Hi – you do have a little astigmatism, but I know a lot of doctors who would fit you in spherical lenses because -.50 cylinder isn’t very much astigmatism.

Colored lenses are available in most prescriptions, and are quite safe as long as they are worn as directed and handled properly.

Soft contact lenses are manufacturer for almost every prescription and are taken from a stock. RGP lenses are sometimes custom made for the patient.

Colored lenses are as safe as clear, but often ore not as comfortable, and some lenses, particularly the opaque ones, somewhat impair vision.

The only person who can determine if you are a good candidate is your optometrist, although most people can wear contact lenses.

    Good luck

Everyone has their own lenses made specifically for them. A optical technician will literally measure your eyes and ensure a good fit. They will teach you how to insert them and clean them and will suggest the best type for you. Find a good Optician who does lenses and Listen to them, it is their job and they know what they are talking about.

As for coloured lenses, yep there too are perfectly safe, but expensive. If you intend to wear lenses seriously, you may want to start with inexpensive practical ones first.

Lots of opticians do daily lens ‘test drives’ for free and these are a good introduction for you. This will give you an idea of what it is like to have your vision corrected in this way. And believe me, once you have taken the plunge….you wont regret it! I have worn contacts for over 20 years and I love mine!

Try Specsavers…they have good prices and good after sales care as well. I have a new set each month, solutions and after care for just £10 a month.

They can make contacts for you!! Go to your opthamologist and have them look at your eyes. They make contacts depending on your prescription and what you need. Your prescription is pretty low, and it will probably be no problem getting you contacts. The only thing I don’t really know about is the astigmatism, but I am pretty sure if they make glasses for it, they will make contacts. The best thing is to talk to your eye doctor about it.

yes they do make lenses according to size. the eye doctor will do a fitting, and reccommend you the right pair to fit the needs of your eyes, especially if you have an astigmatism. my doctor suggests me to use the accuvue oasys 2, being that i too have an astigmatism, and they also dont dry your eyes out as fast as the rest. as far as colored lenses they are slightly larger that normal colorless lenses, and can be a little uncomfortable because of their size, but youll get used to them. in any event asking your eye doctor for their reccomendation on your eyes is the best way to go. hope this helps.

The cyl. portion of your Rx is the astigmatism correction and judging by what you’ve written, your astigmatism is not enough to really warrant using toric contacts (lenses for the astigmatism) I believe they only start making them with a -0.75 and go up from there. So I doubt that your doctor would fit you with torics. He would give you a spherical equivalent. Torics can be tricky to fit and they are far more expensive, so unless your astigmatism were to get worse, chances are that regular spherical lenses would suit you just fine. In a few years, you made need the toric contacts.

All contact lens manufacturers make lenses according to base curve and diameter. The doctor will take measurements of your eyes during the exam and fit you with a lens based on your measurements, also called "K readings". Contacts are available with flatter or steeper base curves and this has to do with how curved your own cornea happens to be. A lens that’s too big will move around too much and cause irritation and corneal ulcers and such. Lenses that are too tight also cause complications, so that is why its important that you wear ONLY the lenses that the doctor prescribes for you, instead of trying to substitute them online because they are cheaper. Poorly fitted contacts will open up a world of problems with your eyes.

Colored lenses are safe, although I personally don’t think they look natural at all. The enhancer contacts that are meant for those with light eyes don’t look bad. They just enhance what the patient already has. But the contacts they make for those with dark eyes actually work by completely covering up what you have already with green or blue or gray or violet. There is a cut-out for the pupil, so your pupil will look the same size all the time because of that cut-out…so the color (to me) looks fake and the fact that you cannot see the pupil dilate and constrict, make you look like a dead perch. I tried them years ago when i first got into Optics, and they were non-prescription lenses and I couldn’t ever see out of them. I would catch the colored part of the lens all the time and it made all the lights have horrible rainbow rings around them. They were dry and uncomfortable and I couldn’t see. Everyone’s experience is unique, I’m just telling you about my personal experience. Colored lenses are also quite salty, compared to clear lenses.
