How Can I Get Over My Fear of Inserting Contact Lenses?
I wear glasses but do not like how they look on my face. I got a prescription for contact lenses put could not put them in during my visit with the eye doctor. I tried really hard, but could not work up the nerve to stick them in my eye. I tried for like an hour. I was embarrassed
How do I get over my fear of inserting contact lenses? I have a fear of even putting eye drops in!
Or, should i give up my quest of wearing contacts and just stick with glasses?

Haha when I first got contacts a couple years ago it took me FOREVER to get them in. I was so frustrated from poking myself in the eye so many times my eye was all red and watery. After a while, my eye doctor told me to come back another day to try again. Not being able to put them in at first is totally normal.
I don’t think you should give up. It might take a while to get used to it but you will – it won’t take long as long as you practice every day. After my first week of wearing contacts daily I could get them in on my first try.
To get them in easy, wash your hands to make sure they’re clean, then dip the finger you use to put in the contact in the solution. Sometimes that helps the contact slip off easier into your eye. Hold you eye open with the other hand and just go for it – be quick but gentle, and make sure you hold your eye open wide enough so the contact doesn’t catch on your eyelashes or something. Also be sure that the contact is flipped the right way… but I’m sure your eye doctor told you about that =) GOOD LUCK!
Just remember:
You’ll get used to it once you do it like 2 times.
I was the same way, I my eye doctor was really frustrated with me after I could not put them in for such a long time.
Ask if you can take them home and do it there.
Practice holding your eye open, touching it (with clean hands), or have someone else put it in for you until you get used to the sensation.
That’s what I did.
It may seem scary, something coming so close to your eye, but it is nothing to be afraid of, I promise!
it’s not that hard. You just lightly put them in.. they stick right on so you don’t have to press on it or anything. It doesn’t hurt as long as the contact is clean. Don’t rinse them with water, just with the solution the doctor gave you. All you have to do is suck it up and just gently put in on your eye.
Hahaha you sound exactly like me! I also didn’t like glasses and when I tried to put them in I couldn’t and I tried for like an hour! I also have a fear of eye drops, but I got over that too! But I went back again and I finally got my contacts in. For me, I just had to practice putting them in. You have to know that if you touch your eye, you’re not going to hurt yourself. Just try to relax and keep trying until you get them in. The more you do it, the easier it will get. Trust me, we were like in exactly the same situation. (:
try it once your fear will go soon.
I have contacts and when the dr. tryed to put them in i was freaked and i couldnt do it myself. In your bathroom just keep trying, and take your time, theres no rush. If you need to turn on the tv or radio, or talk to a close friend or mom while doing it.
Wow! And here I thought I was the only one! I recently found out that to be a CHP officer, I must have vision no worse than 20/40. My right eye is 20/50 – my luck. After panicking – thinking I couldn’t be on the force, I found out that if I wear soft contacts for a year before going onto the force (and, of course, during my job) uncorrected vision will not apply. One problem – I’m horribly horrified of even putting eye drops in. So I’m currently trying to put eye drops in every day as a start, then I hope to move on the the horrible part of sticking my finger in my eye lol I still have not accomplished the eye drops without making a mess, but it’s nice to know I’m not alone!
