How Can I Get Some More Contacts Without Paying $100++ for Another Eye Exam?

I’m sure this is just procedure, but my eyesight is fine, my eye health is fine. It should be up to me whether or not I actually get the exam, but my optician won’t "allow" me to get new contacts without getting checked out first and everybody knows that costs an arm and a leg.

with contacts dr.s are required to give an exam every year.. cause our vision changes all the time.. the kind you cant tell different pressure small variants that need to be updated or they can make your vision worse.

dont skimp cause it could mean your vision!

go to the finest, yet cheapest, doctors in the land. Conviently located in scenic TIajuana.

Your doctor has to not only check that you are seeing well through your contacts, but that they are also fitting properly. There is more to eye health than just being 20/20. Many eye diseases do not cause any pain or problems with your vision in the early stages.

Your contact lens prescription is only good for one year. If you order from Wal-Mart or any place on-line they still have to verify with your eye-doctor that your prescription is current.

By law, he must give you your eye prescription, which means you can take it anywhere and get contacts made … even on the Internet. In the past, optometrists were allowed to keep your prescription, thereby preventing you from taking it somewhere else or shopping around. Now though they are prohibited from doing that. Tell him or his assistant that you want your prescription.

I also have to agree with the person who suggested Wal-Mart. I have vision insurance which will pay 100% for everything no matter where I go, but I have yet to find any private optometrist who gives me a better, more thorough eye exam than Wal-Mart. They look for absolutely everything! Best of all, the exam is VERY affordable and the service is wonderful.

if your eyesight is fine why do you need contacts ( honest question not being a smart *** ) are they cosmetic?

Take the prescription to Walmart Optical

I would order the contacts off the Internet.

I have the exact same problem!

I agree, go to Walmart, or even Sam’s club. It’s like $50-75 there.

You probably want cosmetic contacts, and sure, you’re vision may be okay, but your Dr. just probably wants money, for sure, or wants to be sure you get fit for the correct lens size. I did pay for the exam, which is costly, and I then received the cosmetic contacts. Honestly, I hated them. So annoying. I have dry eyes, so they would constantly dry out quickly and I could not even drive, as my vision would blurr.

After the day, my eyes would be sort of swollen and red.

You can usually get colored contacts at this one swapmeet in LA. No eye exam required.
      LOL…

      Good luck!

If you have your eye prescription, you can send online and get contacts with that. If not, then ask for your prescription from optician on record and get more contacts with that. Is your prescription on your contact box?

    • Peatea says:

Try ordering them offline. I ordered mine from:

http://www.ezcontactsusa.com last week. They cost me $100 LESS than they would have from 1800contacts, and less than they did from my optician the year before. Just know your prescription for each eye, and the contact info to your doctor and you’ll be all set!

      Hope this helps. :-)

Has it been a long time since your last exam? I think this is pretty standard procedure for most eye docs, which can be annoying when you know your vision hasn’t changed. Your doc should not have a problem giving you a hard copy of your last prescription, but then you’ll have a problem most likely taking it elsewhere to get it filled, with the new place wanting to do an exam of their own.

You have to get the exam not just to check how good your vision is but also to check the shape (curvature) of your eye. Everyone’s eye is slightly different. If you use contacts that you do not have a prescription for you risk damaging your eyes surface. Thus causing eye sight problems or even blindness. I urge you to cough up the cash and get a contact lens exam if it is that important to you. Go to Wal*Mart or Costco they are cheap for exams.

I work for VSP (Vision Service Plan). Contact lens prescriptions are only valid for one year in most states. Doctors will not fill a prescriptions that are over a year old due to liability issues.
