With hyperopia and myopia a person can "cheat" a bit on an eye test by squinting – will not make a huge difference but may help. With astigmatism squinting may help but there is another cheat – take your finger and gently push on your eyeball – only through the upper or lower lid. The push may change the shape of eye enough to reduce the effect of the astigmatism.

Because of my own astigmatism I have a a double image in both eyes without glasses – pushing on the eye can reduce it a great deal. It may look kind of strange doing that in an exam though. Experiment.

    You can’t.

Why are you trying to show no astigmatism?

  • Tuvya says:

well if you have an astigmatism that isn’t minimal you probably cant, what is your cylinder power

  • CONFUSED!!! says:

you can’t astigmatism as usually caused by an irregularly shaped cornea Astigmatism is when the cornea is shaped more like an oblong football than a spherical baseball, which is the normal shape. In most astigmatic eyes, the oblong or oval shape causes light rays to focus on two points in the back of your eye, rather than on just one. This is because, like a football, an astigmatic cornea has a steeper curve and a flatter one.
