How Do Contact Lenses Correct Eyesight?

For a physics project we have to describe how contact lenses work. I figured that they would be the same as eyeglasses but she asks for them seperatly so I am at a loss.

Glasses and contacts operate on the same basic principles, but contacts have to accomplish the same thing in a much smaller space (for obvious reasons). Contacts are often made out of more bendable materials, for comfort. Since they are closer to the eye than glasses, they are also more curved. I suspect that the materials used in contacts may have a higher index of refraction than glass, since they’re not as thick, but I don’t know if that’s true or not – just conjecture on my part.

they’re just like glasses, but they have a different lens material, and they’re smaller, so they comfortably fit the eye.

as far as i know it’s the same deal, just they are closer to the eye.

alternatively, it could be this. When you put the contact lenses in your eye, it’s like saying, "ok eye, if you don’t stop looking blurry, i’m gonna keep poking stuff in there like this and making it hurt like hell" and then your eye complies with the demands. ;)

Contact lens are just little pieces of plastic that pushes your eyeballs so that they can see better.

A contact lens works as any lens would; i.e. the same as eyeglasses.

Where your natural lens trys to magnify too much (too thick) a thin diverging spot on the lens would be made. Where it is too thin, a thicker spot would be made on the contact lens.

Corrective contact lenses when properly placed on your eye and of course properly placed would make your eye’s lens perfectly spherical.

When an eye becomes short or long sighted it is because the Lens at the front of they eye is not the correct shape to focus light on the back of the eye (retina).
Glasses or Contact lenses are shaped pieces of glass or soft plastic which will correct the shape of the eye, ensuring light is focussed on the retina, and you see clearly.
