How Do I Get Contact Lenses?
I’ve been wearing glasses now for almost 4 years and I’ve been considering trying prescribed colored contact lenses. Well I just wanted to know how to get them. Do I have to get a prescription from my eye doctor and then give it to a place where they sell contact lenses? How long will it take to get them? And I saw at Costco that it said on a giant poster " Disposable Contacts .00." So does that mean the contact lenses itself is .00? Does it actually cost money to get an examination from my eye doctor too? How often will I have to change them? Also, I would like to know your opinion on the best brand contacts. And will it cost more for colored ones?
Please be specific. Thank You!
I’m 13 years old by the way.

That’s a lot of questions!
Yes, you need an exam and that costs money. A contact lens exam is a little different from an eyeglass exam.
The best brand of contacts will depend on your specific circumstances.
Colored lenses do cost more.
There are lenses that last one day, two weeks, or indefinitely. The two week disposables are the most common. If you have a preference, let your eye doctor know.
Depending on your vision, Your eye doc should have some free trail pair for you to try or they might suggest go and check out.
~talk to your parents & have them go with you to a good eye doctor. i’d rather pay more when it comes to sticking something in my eyes!~
well I’m 11 and I already have contact lenses, and what they did for me was gave me a free trial pair. Your eye doctor can get your prescription and order them, or you can take your prescription to a place where they sell the lenses. I got my acuvue advance ones in about 2 weeks, so it’s pretty good.
Yes you will require an exam for contact lenses…your rx for glasses does not work for contacts. See your optometrist for an exam and for a trial pair. If you have an astygmatism..colored contacts are not available. As for changing lenses..there are extended wear..which means you can wear them for a month..but I’m not sure if they are available in colored lenses. Daily wear require you take them out at night and need to be replaced every 2 weeks to a month. As for me…the Accuvue are the best..you really can’t feel them when they’re in..and I’ve heard the Oasis by Accuvue are wonderful. And as for price? Thats going to vary…My rx is around $55 for 6 months..but I have to have the ones for astygmatism..it is less if you don’t. Good luck finding what works for you!
You must get your initial contacts prescribed by an optician. They normally charge for a contact lens eye test to see if your vision and eye shape are suitable, and what would be the best sort, then they normally let you have a test run with a trial pair.
There are all different sorts – daily disposables, monthly disposables, continuous wear etc etc. You are best discussing your options with a trained optician who can advise you according to your needs and which you actually find comfortable to use.
Disposable contacts $15 – would probably refer to a month’s supply (eg 30 pairs) but you would need an up to date prescription to purchase them.
Many people get their lenses fitted by an optician but then use the internet etc to find cheaper suppliers, but you must get a regular check up (annually).
You can get prescription lenses in colours as well.
Oh my god! Contact lenses at Costco??? Do NOT get your contact lenses from anywhere without seeing your eye doctor first. And you should already have an eye doctor if you are wearing glasses.
Why are you asking US this question?
Ask your eye doctor!!!
You will need an eye exam for contacts. If you have recently had an exam say in the last 2 months or so you will still need another one but your eye Doctor will probably prorate the cost . Make sure if you call & ask pricing , ask if all follow up visits are included. Some unethical places give you the exam really cheap but charge a great deal for all the follow up visits & trial contacts. Your Doctor will decide which ones will fit your needs & eyes the best, just make sure that you tell him what you want RE: to sleep in them, colored, disposable, not disposable, theatrical. How long they last , & how often you change them directly affects the cost
