How Do I Get New Contact Lenses in Japan?

I live in Japan and need some new contact lenses. Back in America I always got them from my optometrist. What do I need to do here? Do I have to go to a doctor for a prescription and then go somewhere else to get the actual lenses? Are some places cheaper than others? Does health insurance usually cover any of the cost? Any advice would be appreciated!

In Japan, Eye examination is done at the optical shop, or more commonly known as the "eye-glass shop". You do not need a prescription as testing is done at the shop. Shops are all generally about the same price as they price their products competitively. In Japan, I believe health insurance does cover most of the cost of the contacts, as well as the examination.

it seems as if you don’t speak japanese maybe you haven’t been here long. there are many opticians, where they sell spectacles, ( you must have seen them) go in and tell them you want contacts, they’ll test your eyes and recommend the most expensive, tell them what you want are regular lenses, unless you want the others . the price is not covered by health insurance. even megane are not covered unless you recieve welfare here. if japanese is a real problem try to go with a japanese speaking person. they are often very quick and you may get your new ones on the same day.
