How Do You Read the Numbers on Contact Lens Boxes (the Vision Numbers)?
Question by Ashley: How do you read the numbers on contact lens boxes (the vision numbers)?
Hi,
Okay, my contact lens boxes say my vision in my right eye is -5.45 and my vision in my left is -4.25. I understand that lower numbers are better and negative numbers are near sightedness, but what does the actual 4.25 and 5.45 mean? And I know my vision is bad and seems to be getting worse with time, so what number is considered legally blind?

It means that the most distance you see 100% clear is 23.5cm in your left eye and 18cm in your right eye, anything past that would start going blurry.
Diopter numbers can tell the distance you see clearly from, it’s difficult to tell your vision acuity according to diopter powers.
Legally Blind is vision worse than 20/200 . Most probably you are legally blind without your glasses.
Your vision is getting worse because you are still growing.
