How Dramatic Are Colored Contact Lenses Supposed to Be?

I have dark brown eyes, and tried out a local brand of green, purple, and blue colored contacts for fun–yoyou can hardly tell the difference.
The only way yoyou can tell is if you stare at yourself intently through the mirror or get your photo taken with a bright flash. =/
Is this just a brand thing? Or are colored contacts supposed to be very, very, very undramatic?
Is there such thing as a dramatic natural color lens? (Not those cat-eye, soccer-ball, zombie halloween ones =P)
