How Long Are Contact Lenses Good for?

Opticians usually say each pair is good for about a month, but does that mean wearing for 12 hours a day each day? I usually only wear mine for a few hours around 3 times a week.

How many hours of wearing are soft contact lenses good for?

hippo37 makes a good point. Everyone’s different as far as how comfortable slightly-past-due contacts are, but typically part-time wearers replace their monthly lenses every 4-8 weeks. I wouldn’t keep them any longer than two months each. If you’re wearing them only a few hours a few days a week, I imagine daily lenses would be more convenient and comfortable for you.

The days are critical. The lenses start to degenerate once they are opened so they don’t transmit as much oxygen. If you don’t wear them every day then you can extend teh wearing time a bit but I find with my fortnightlies that if I don’t have them in a week because of a cold they aren’t comfortable for a week more. I fyou aer only wearing 3 times a week you might find dailies more economical – suggest you look at other options.

even though you may feel comfortable with wearing them longer than the time prescribed for, that’s not a good idea. the lenses start to disintegrate after a certain time and our eyes will get scratched up from over wear/overuse and you wouldn’t even know it until you went back for a check up after some time.
