How Much Difference Is There Between +6 and +8 Contact Lenses?

And don’t say two, I know math.

What I mean is, I want color contacts and they only go up to +6. However, my prescription is a +8. If I don’t use them for driving and I wear reading glasses when I need to read, would it be alright to wear them? It won’t mess up my eyes or anything, they just wont be quite as good as my regular contact lenses, right?

Yes. I think you could get by with +6.00 contacts and use a pair of +1.50 or +2.00 drug store reading glasses in front of them when you need to. It’s not that I am recommending that you do this, but I think it would work OK. And it won’t mess up your eyes. You will probably find your distance vision is pretty good with +6.00 correction only. I can tell you that I have no problem driving with 1.75 dioptres of farsightedness even at night. I can do so legally because when I renewed my license I passed the vision test without glasses. You will have only ≤ 2.00 dioptres of farsightedness if you wear +6.00 contacts

If you need 8 and you wear 6, your eyes need another 2 diopters of power. If you are young, they can generate this by accommodating (focusing). If you want to do something tricky to make up the difference when driving, you could get a pair of +2.00 over the counter "readers" and use them to supply the difference.
No harm to your eyes is caused by wearing too weak lenses.
