How Much Should I Wear My Contact Lenses if I Just Got Them Yesterday for Tomoro?

I just got my contact lenses today, I’ve now been wearing them for 5 hours and they seem fine.
My optometrist said I should wear them for maybe 4 hours tomoro, then gradually wear them for longer.
They feel fine though and don’t irritate me, so do you think it will be alright if I wore them for 12 hours tomorrow? I might take them out for half an hour after six hours.
I have soft lense ones, I think.

I am an Optometrist in CT, the best way to build into new lenses is the 4+2 method. Start with 4 hours on day 1 and add 2 hours each day until a max of 12/day. This allows your eyes to adjust to the foreign object in your eye gradually, and limits your chances of an allergic reaction under your eye lids (Called Papillary Conjunctivitis).

Depending on the brand of lenses you have, they may be approved for longer than 12 hour daily wear. Lenses such as the O2Optix, Oasys, Night and Day, and Purevision are considered extended wear lenses.

i went through the same thing. i had soft lenses, got them one day after school, they said wear them for five hours a day until i was comfortable. i wore them for five hours that night and they didn’t bug me at all, so i wore them to school and soccer practice the next day. i wore them for about 13 hours and took them out and i was fine. i’ve been wearing contacts for two years, and no problems. so as long as they don’t bother you, go for it.

I had a lot of problems with contacts (although mine were the hard type I think ?) & suggest even though they may feel fine right now, later on they could make your eyes sore from wearing them for too long. There is no harm in wearing them for shorter periods at first & then gradually increasing the time as this will help your eyes get use to them. The worst thing that can happen is that one day when you wake up you cant use them because your eyes are sore from wearing the contacts too much, so I really believe you should take your time just for security. Good luck !
