How to Tell My Parents I Am Ready for Contact Lenses?
I’m a 13 yr. old and I keep asking my mom if I can get contact lenses because I have been wearing glasses for about 4-5 years. My mom keep saying that I’m too young and we need to ask the optI amist first and my sister said I’ll need a lot of responsibility. I’ll be in High School soon and I’m tired wearing glasses. What can I tell them?

You aren’t to young. I’ve had them since I was 12. That’s when most people get them. And they aren’t very hard to take care of. I’d say make her feel guilty-ish. Don’t wear them (even if your vision sux) and if she asks why tell her you’re embarassed to wear glasses and they’re really annoying. Or ask her if theres anything you can do to make her change her mind. If not it’s only one more year.
You are too young.
yea your tired of wearing glasses now, but contacts are even more of a pain in the ass! my advice: just suck it up and wear glasses until you are old enough for lasik eye surgery.
i am 14, and i got my contacts when i was 13. I had been wearing classes since like 4th grade, and i hated them. I finally convinced my parents to get me some because i am a cheerleader. Contacts are not hard to take care of at all, and are very comfortable. I think that you are at a good age to get contacts. Contacts improved my seeing dramatically; everything was clearer. tell your mom that contacts will help you in school for seeing the board, and if you do a sport, tell her they will help.
They are easy to take care of ..
Takes a day to get use to putting them on tho ..
I remember dealing with them , I no longer use them I did the lazer eye surgery best thing I ever did !
i got glasses in the 8th grade and was wearing contacts a few months later. i never got used to glasses and i still never wear glasses unless im watching tv in bed and i am 23. if you really want contacts then you are ready for it. you put them in and take them out, solution cleans them. it is really not that difficult and i think you can handle it.
just tell your parents that this is what you want and make the appt and go to the dr. goodluck.
I worked for an optometrist for over 4 years & the youngest patient I taught was 5 years old. He did it with practice. Go to this site: http://www.us.cibavision.com/for_your_eyes/quick_tips.shtml CibaVision is a contact lens manufacturer & their website gives you great facts & even provides a how to video. Do your research so you can tell your mom WHY you are responsible & ready for contacts. To make sure you can put them in you can practice by
1. WASHING YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP
2. Put your left hand middle & ring finger together & reach over your head pulling up your eye lid (like this: http://content5.videojug.com/7f/7f8b5ede-fcaf-e2a0-d8c6-ff0008c91cad/how-to-insert-contact-lenses.jpg )
3. Pretending the lens is on your right index finger, pull your eyelid down at the bottom with your right middle finger.
4. Gently touch your eye with your right index finger.
If you can’t touch your eye you won’t be able to put them in. There is nothing like finally convincing your mom you can do it & then not being able to do it. Watch some videos on YouTube on how to insert them & clean them. ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS FIRST.
