Is It Ok to Sleep with My Contact Lenses for One Hour?

I am thinking of getting a massage some tI ame soon and i think i might fall asleep as they are so relaxing. I would probably only fall asleep for about 30 minutes to an hour with my contact lenses in. Is this ok or should i stay awake?

An hour isn’t long, but falling asleep normally with your contacts in increases the risk of a corneal abscess by something like 20x. An hour is probably less dangerous (i guess?) but the treatment for corneal abscess is no fun, they’re ugly as hell when you have them and the chance of permanent sight damage is very real.

It is fine. My husband falls asleep with his in all the time. Enjoy your massage!

  • I once slept a couple of hours with my contact lens on and although nothing happened to me, I would suggest you not to do it. My cousin is an opthalmoglogist and he’s recommended me to be very careful with contact lens usage. Try to wear them for less than 8 hours a day. The best ones are the daily disposable ones.
