Disposable contacts are made differently than long-term contacts for numerous reasons and in plenty of different ways. The most important is that disposable contacts are not made to allow your cornea to breathe. Since you should be taking the contacts out, you’re only temporarily limiting the supply of oxygen to your eye. Long-term contacts are made to allow the eye to breathe more – you sleep with them, shower with them, and really only take them out to wash them. Obviously, the eyeball *can* get oxygen while wearing either, but disposable contacts don’t let in as much oxygen.

Wearing them for extended periods of time will result in different types of irritation. Blood shot, itchiness, watery eyes, etc. It can go on to headaches and infections, too. Dust and debris can build up on the lenses, even with cleaning, so you eventually have to replace them.

I would personally say that you can wear them for a bit longer than recommended, but I wouldn’t push it too much or try it too often. Your eyes are insanely sensitive and quite valuable to your quality of life – you don’t want to screw them up! With daily disposables, I would toss them out after 3 days/2 nights. With week-long wearables, I wouldn’t wear them longer than a week and a half. Monthly contacts…maybe an extra week if I was feeling lucky. But if they ever start feeling gritty or dry, just take them out. Don’t risk it :)

Also, as for washing your face – aside from seriously flushing your eyes out with soapy water, you should be fine.

A lot of protein can get collected on your lense which can cause irritation and redness and burning.

Just depends on the person. I would not recommend it as it could lead to eye infections… That being said. I have the same prescription in both eyes and 1 box lasts me a year. I wear them until they become blurry and i can no longer see well out of them. I usually get at least 3-4 months out of a pair. I also never take the damned things out either, again don’t suggest that. I would assume with proper care of them and daily cleaning you could get more time out of them.

lol…Well, I wear mine for months straight without taking them out and mine are two weeks contacts. I haven’t really noticed anything different in my eyes. Although, I woke up with a stye today and can hardly open my eyelid, but I don’t think it’s from my contact. Also, I’m sure it’s okay to put water in your eye with your contacts in, I do the same thing. The only thing you’d have to worry about is them falling out.

Well you can get Conjunctivitis which is when your eyes get a bit itchy but apart from that it’s fine for a few days.

Nothing happens when you wash your eyes with them on except they can fall off.

i think my doctor said it’ll irritate the eye..which is a bad thing. but i remember ..a while back in middle school…i didnt know that there was a certain time to dispose them…so i wore the same ones for a year.lol. nothing happened. except that the contact was getting stiff and every time i blinked, it somewhat irritated my eye. my vision got worse, but thats normal.lol

You can usually wear them much longer. I have a friend who destroyed her eyes that way and has to put these drops in all the time. I myself never took mine out so that when I went to the eye doc because my prescription needed to be stronger he told me it was the same but I was starving my eyes of oxygen and would eventually go blind. I took them out and a week later they were fine. I wouldn’t mess around too much with them but I still am not as good about it as I should be.

I wear Focus Daily Disposables, which are supposed to only be worn for 12 hours or so once you are used to them. When you first start wearing contacts you should only wear them for 6/7 hours until your eyes get used to them.

There are side effects from wearing them for too long, which, for me, includes, dry, tired eyes, eyes sticking together, pain to blink, pain to look around and difficulty to remove them.

I have, on numerous occasions, slept with my contacts in (as they are daily disposable you’re not supposed to do this) by accident and on purpose ;) This is not supposed to be done and I’m told in the long run it can hurt your eyes. The majority of the time your eyes will secrete a thick yellow liquid (as if ‘sleep’ had liquefied), rubbing this away can get rid of it. But, once you wake up and blink for awhile theory can go back to normal, it is relatively easy to wear them longer than their advised period.

I hope this helps, oh, and you can wash your eyes whilst wearing contacts, but it is possible to knock your contacts out if your eyes are open.
