My Contact Lens Prescription Is the Same in Both Eye, Is That Common?

Some people I know with contact lenses have different prescriptions for each eye and so they have to be careful with contact to put in which eye, but I can put any contact in any eye because I have the same prescription in both eye, is that normal or uncommon?

I would say the percentage is greater than 10% and less than 50%. I have had patients ask me if they can get both eyes the same when there is only a 0.25 difference. Unless I can come up with a very compelling reason not to, I generally allow it. I would encourage you to keep your lenses in the correct sides of the container though. The time may come when your powers are different and it will be hard to establish new habits where you can keep them in the correct sides of your container. Back when replacing lenses was a big deal, we used to encourage people to keep them in the same eyes so we could troubleshoot problems more easily. For example if there was a rip in the left lens and the patient complained about discomfort in his right eye, we might not realize that they had just switched eyes that morning. Lenses are replaced frequently enough now that this is less of an issue.

Yes. Most times people have different prescriptions in each eye but having the same prescription in both eyes is also common too.

Both my eyes are the exact same as well. I don’t have to worry about which contact goes in which eye. All of my friends who wear contacts, have different prescriptions. So I don’t think it’s rare, but it’s not too common either.

well I’ve heard of contact’s being close. but not the same. that’s weird. i rather wear glasses. contact’s mess up Your eyes. well bye.

  • Noe H says:

That is pretty normal. The only thing I’d say is still try not to switch your contacts. If your right eye has an infection you could pass it to the left eye.

I know several people who have the same prescription in both eyes. I am not one of them. My right eye has close to normal vision so I do not correct it and my left eye has moderate astigmatism.
