Questions About Contact Lens Sizing?
So, Ive been fitted for contact lenses in the past and now I’m looking into buying colored lenses just for giggles and occasional wear. The ones I want to buy do NOT require a prescription, however, mine matches their size almost perfectly. The only thing is my diameter is 14.00 and the lens diameter is 14.5. So! My questions to you are..
Is it REALLY that much of a difference? What would happen if I wore them anyways?
Thanks

Really, you should get a contact exam whether the contacts need it or not. This exam tells the health of your corneas. Then you can ask your optician about the diameter difference. Some patients can change and not have any problems, some can’t. The bigger diameter is going to cover more of the iris. My suggestion is to call your optician’s office and make an appointment. Some states require you have a contact exam every year and others every oher year. This is for your health and it is different from a regular glasses exam.
The consultant at http://www.coloredcontacts.com/ said "not to worry". Many colored contacts only come in one diameter because diameter is not that critical. 14.5 covers most eyes as far as covering the size of the iris with the colored part of the colored contacts.
Well, there is no such thing as a non prescription contact lens. The diameter doesn’t matter very much but the curvature does. The curvature is usually the number like 8.2, 8.3, 8.6, 8.7 etc. Wearing a flat curve on a pointed eye or visa-versa can cause problems. Usually the Freshlook brands have the 14.5 diameter, but if your eye curvature is more pointed it could make the lens move more and look like you have a "wondering, ie lazy eye" and also irritate the cornea and lid tissue
