Should I Put My Contact Lens Back on if It Has Been Causing My Eye to Itch?

Question by Always Right: Should I put my contact lens back on if it has been causing my eye to itch?
Yesterday my right eye started itching all of a sudden; it has happened before, but the itching goes away after using artificial tears. This time, however, I had to remove my contact lens (I placed it in its box) for it to go away. They haven’t yet expired, so it’s not because of that.

I’m unsure of whether to put it on again; I have no idea whether it has been damaged, or there’s something else about it that has caused my eye to itch.

itching can be a sign of infection. If that is the case then yoru eye needs to heal and that lense is infected adn will have to be thrown out. Itching though can mean many things to many people. It could be that you have got dust or dirt on it – those are normally fixed with artifical tears. If its sometihng bigger like a hair or bit of fluff from a towel you do have to get teh lenses out to fix it. Hold it up under a light and see if you can spot anything. swill it off by squirting cleaning solution onto it. Also check for damage. After that try again. Sometimes lenses are uncomfortable when you put them in because they have got something on them, but I’d normally describe that as painfuul not itching.
