Question by proudchocoholic505: What kinds of contact lenses could I wear if I have irregular astigmatism?
I know I have astigmatism in one eye (from corneal scarring due to an abrasion), and I think it is irregular because it was from eye injury. Would soft toric contact lenses help correct it, or do I have to wear RGP lenses? Also, would it get worse if I leave it uncorrected?

Well, obviously no one can guess at a solution for you.

You need a comprehensive eye examination before anyone could tell you what kind of contacts, if any would be best for you.

But, no…it won’t get worse if it isn’t corrected.

if you have a high astigmatism and with using soft toric c.l there is not to mush improvement in vision. i prefer to use the RGP postgraph c.l if it is totally irregular astigmatism with high cylinder and if it give you more improvement in vision
so you must compare your vision with both of them

I use Acuvue Contact Lenses for Astigmatism for about a year now. And I was wondering if I can wear a normal contact lenses? Like the Circle Lenses. I heard from someone I know that also have astigmatism that she is wearing circle lenses from Geo, not the Toric or the one for astigmatism. Is it safe? Will it damage my eyes?

And do you know any site that I can buy circle lenses?

Yea, its safe to wear them. I have astigmatism in one eye and i wear normal circle lenses.

no…normal contact lenses won’t help your vision. i’d stay with the astigmatism lenses, i’ve had mine for three years. you can get colored ones as well for astigmatism, but they cost alot more than regulars.

Yeah the circle lens company G&G has circle lenses for astigmatism, but all contact lens (soft/hard/colored/circle/regular/perscription/nonprescription) are potentially damaging.

I just started wearing contacts a couple of days ago. I use Opti-Free replenish solution. Whenever I put the contacts on, my eyes become irritated, red, and watery.
Is this normal? Is it because my eyes haven’t gotten used to the contacts? Should I wait a little longer?
Or am I allergic to the solution? I don’t know what the problem is.
I have contact lens for astigmatism.
And my contact lens are thick (since my prescription is -13).

I just got an eye exam and the doctor said I have 30/20 vision and a little bit of astigmatism in my left eye, what does this mean because the doctor really didn’t explain it.

my vision is 20/50, and i have glasses, can bad vision cause you to go blind? i’m so worried about going blind, i am 19 years old and i think my last eye exam was around 2 years ago, as far as i know i do not have glaucoma or any of that but i do have astigmatism, i’m so worried, please help! and can you go blind without cataracts or glaucoma? please be nice about your answers, i’m very worried. thanks for reading and answering.

The fine print on most of them basically say:
1. cost of eye examination/fitting not included
2. you’ll probably need an eye examination
3. limit of one free trial certificate per person
4. none of them are "in-office" trials

I’m getting the examination anyways and I’m planning on sticking with the same brand, but I really just want a couple freebies so that I can get away with only purchasing 9 months of contacts (the $$$ amount covered by my insurance)

Number 3 seems to be the hang-up… do you think the one trial certificate per person applies across brands?

I can’t just go in multiple times because I’m going abroad in about a month and so I have to order the contacts within 2 weeks… I have astigmatism and a very strong prescription so they almost never have them actually in the office.

I recently got an eye exam from an opthalmologist and my prescription shows astigmatism in both eyes. I have never noticed blurriness or any warped vision previously, and my previous exams with other opticians (including one about 18 months ago) did not show astigmatism.

I got my new glasses today and feel a little like my right eye is looking through a fishbowl. It’s nothing horrible, but it’s a little weird.

Should I give the new glasses a few days? They don’t give me headaches, so that’s not an issue. They don’t make much of a difference in vision from the old glasses (other than astigmatism), but…they look a lot better than the old ones.

well a while back i got shot with a 360 fps airsoft gun from bout 5 ft away in the eye and i went for an eye exam cuz my vision was worse so he said i have astigmatism in the eye i got shot with the airsoft gun in and i used to not and my vision is now more worse in that eye then it was……is it cuz of the airsoft gun
ok i didnt shoot myself my cuz was sitting on the other side of is bed across from me and accendently shot the gun ant it hit me in the eye my eye got red sort of puffy and really watery and stung
the eye doc said my eye isnt damaged i want to know is that what cuzed worse vision and astigmatism tnx tho

I just recently got reading glasses for very slight nearsightedness (.50) and have been getting used to them. I get slight headaches if I don’t use them now. However, I have also noticed recently that I have had a little more trouble driving at night…light sensitivity and hard to distinguish between the road and area around it if it isn’t lit, etc. I know my dad had astigmatism. Could my nearsightedness and issues at night be astigmatism, or would my eye doctor have noticed this during the exam?

Hello.
I got an eye exam today. I used to have -3.00 on both eyes but it lowered to -3.50 on both
The doctor said that i have astigmatism and i need to wear toric lenses? i just heard about them today.I used to wear normal lenses but now I have to buy expensive toric lenses.
The doctor gave me a free trail lens so I I put them on at the site. It was comfortable at the time but after I got out and while driving back home, it became uncomfortable quickly. (I put them on only for 20 minutes)

My question is:
1. can I just wear normal Acuvue2 lens that I used before? (It felt more comfortable than toric lens? or whatever that the doctor gave me. That lens is bigger than my brown part of eyes. The lens covers my white part of my eyes so if ppl see my eyes, they will know that i have my lens on & it looks a little weird cus the lense is a lttle bit blueish so there’s a circle blueish thing on my white part of eye balls. )

2. Do I only get the exact same lens from the prescription paper? Can I just buy regular ones?

3. Is my eye sight going to get worse if I don’t wear toric lenses?

Hello,

I had a free contact lens trial with Specsavers. I have a slight astigmatism (roughly -0.5) in both eyes, so they gave me aspheric lenses (BC:8.7, DIA: 14.3). I have worn them for the last wee and they have been fantastic. I ordered some more after my aftercare consultation last week and went to collect them this morning. When I got them home I’ve opened the box and they are slightly different. The new ones are called ‘easy vision umere’ and have a BC:8.6 and DIA: 14.1.
I haven’t tried them yet. Are contact lens measurements so set in stone? Are the new lenses aspheric or ‘normal’ ones?

Today is my first day wearing contact lenses ever.
I have toric lenses for astigmatism (daily disposables).
I don’t have any solution because the optometrician said I didn’t need any.
I’ve had them on for around 4 hours now and I still can’t see straight, everything is very unclear, and small objects and writing more than two feet away is blurry.
Is this normal?

So I been going to a normal optometry clinic place for years to get eye exams, since I wear contacts. The prescription for both of my eyes have always been the same. But just recently I really needed to get another eye exam and the normal place I go to was closed for the next 4 days so I ended up going to Walmart and now all of a sudden they say I have astigmatism which would mean somehow one of my eyes got way better and the other one worse. I’m 14 and I’m getting contact lenses very soon but my optician (eye doctor) is only letting me have 30 pairs for 3 months. He says I’m too young to wear contact lenses everyday so I can only wear them 2 or 3 times a week. My eye doctor is recommending custom made contact lenses instead of the disposables I have been wearing. I have degenerative myopia (-13 both eyes), high astigmatism and dry eyes. I understand that it may be difficult to find an existing disposable lens for my eyes. My one concern is the price of custom made lenses. Does anyone know a range? Are they between 0-,000 per year? More than ,000?
