Which Type of Contact Lens Should I Go for?

hi! my prescription is as follows:

    Right eye:
    Spherical–0.50
    Cylindrical–1.50
    Axis-20 degrees

    Left eye:
    Spherical-0.00
    Cylindrical–1.25
    Axis-170 degrees

Please someone suggest which type of contacts should i go for-torics or any other, coz i visited an optician recently who suggested that i should not go for torics considering my cylindrical number is not that high. But i have heard that people with cylindrical number should always go for torics. My age is 20 and i have been wearing glasses for about 1.5-2 years. Also the optician i visited gave me a contact lens pair to try which wasn’t torics and i felt comfortable wearing them, though i tried them for only for a few minutes. I have never tried contact lens before. Please someone suggest me as to what type of contacts should i go for…thanks a lot!
The optician gave me those lens for using only for 5 minutes and i have read in many forums that people often are not comfortable wearing torics..and if i should only go for torics, then which is the best brand of torics and its price? and is there something called the diameter of the eyeball and do opthalmologists in India measure the eyeball before giving the contact lens prescription because i have read that the various parameters of the eye like the diameter of the eyeball, etc, vary from person to person and the contacts have to be custom made to fit the eyes of an individual…please suggest…thanks a lot!

Astigmatism Contacts Prescription: Axis 002 = 20 Degrees?

I’m trying to order new contacts for astigm online. My contacts prescription states the axis is 002. On the contact lens order page, the choices for axis are labeled in degrees – from 10 degrees to 180. What does the 002 stand for on my prescription? thanks.

Is the Prescription for Eyeglasses and Contact Lenses the Same with 0.5 CYL in One Eye ?

recently my son had an eye test. His old prescription was Right -4.25; Left -5.00. His new eye test was Right -5.5, 0.5 CYL, 125 AXIS; Left -6 DS. Now the Optician did not tell him he needed new contact lens sizes but he did need new eyeglasses as the out come of this new test. I rang the optician to clarify but couldnt get a straight answer to the following question!

So here is my question – "Do I get my son new contact lenses ( TORIC ) or keep getting him the old strength ?" Note – my son says with his new eyeglasses he can see much better, and now doesn’t use his OLD contact lenses as they dont let him see as well as the new eyeglasses. ps I am not a glasses or lens wearer myself !!!
Thank you for the detailed answers. Here is additional information.
    1. The OLD prescription was for contact lenses R -4.25 L -5.00
    2. The NEW Prescription is for eyeglasses and is Right +0.5 CYL
    3. The new prescription is for eyeglasses.
    4. FYI the new prescription is R -5.5 SPH +0.5 CYL 125 AXIS; L -6DS SPH

Please advise me what the strengths arefor the New contact lenses. Thank you and merry xmas !

Are Toric Contact Lenses More Comfortable, or Are They Just Made for a Better Prescription?

I have a pair of regular geo lens color contacts. They fit well. My right eye seems to be astigmatic (cyl prescription is no more than 1.25). So I’m wondering if the geo toric lenses are meant for better fit, or better sight. the axis for my right eye is 175. the contacts are 180. so yeah.

btw, the normal lens fits okay for 5 hours, which seems to be normal for geo lens..

    Axis Available Different to Prescription?

    Hi

My current contact lens prescription has an axis of 90 in one eye (R) and 80 in the other (L). My glasses prescription is 95 and 77.5.

I’m looking to change my lens type from fortnightly to dailies, so have been looking to see what is available here in the UK.

It seems that the closest axis available with the lenses that I could use is an axis of 90. I know with my current prescription that one eye is 5 out and the other is 2.5 degrees out (90 v 95 and 80 v 77.5), but would a difference of 12.5 be too much (ie. 77.5 v 90)?

I’d just like to know whether this is doable, before spending money on a formal optician consultation.

    My full glasses prescription is:

    R: -1.00 -1.25 95
    L: -1.00 -1.00 77.5

    Many thanks in advance,

    Z

Contact Lens Problem, Eye Somtimes Becomes Irratant and Blured Vision?

I started wearing contact lens around last November and have been very pleased with them. However recently my lenses tend to become irritant and blurred a few times a week and I was wondering if anybody knows what could be causing this. I have a fairly high prescription at around- SPH +6.50 CYL +150 AXIS 20 in my right eye and in my left eye SPH +6.00 CYL +175 AXIS 170 and am long sighted. Could anyone perhaps even suggest the most suitable type of lens for my prescription and where to get them.
I have recently remembered that around about last month i did rinse one of my lenses with tap water, could this also have an effect on the lens?

Are Glasses/contacts Lens Prescriptions Supposed to Be Different?

I recently purchased some glasses lens. Problem is, I can barely see through these glasses. I noticed when I looked at my prescription that my glasses prescription had the exact same numbers as my contact lens prescription.

Are glasses/contacts lens prescriptions supposed to be different? I have heard so in the past. This would certainly explain why I feel like I am underwater or something.
    SPH, CYL, AXIS

    OD -2.25, -2.50, 012
    OS -3.50, -2.25, 160

I just realized that the two prescriptions are the EXACT same. I think my doctor screwed up.

Left Eye Contact Lens Doesn't Match Prescription?

I’m a short sighted and need the lenses of

    Right Eye -> SPH: -2.75 CYL: – AXIS: -
    Left Eye -> SPH: -2.50 CYL: -0.25 AXIS: 0

I’m going to use contact lenses and for that, yesterday my father had purchased for me the contact lenses of same strength (-2.75). It was so because the Dr had said that the difference might be ignored. I’m confused about using them. Should I use them? Won’t it harm me?

My contact prescription says something like:

I already have glasses, but I have no idea what the prescription for them is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Did I Get the Correct Eye Glasses and Contact Lens Prescriptions?

6 months ago I went to a new eye doctor. I hadn’t been to the optometrist in 5 years. All I know from my old prescription was Right SPH: -1.25 and Left SPH: -1.75 and I have an astigmatism. I had no problems except at night things were a little blurrier and my glasses broke.

The new doctor "inherited" my file and after an examination (machine test and he checked them out) said my eyes had gotten better, but the astigmatism worsened. He said that my new vision was Right) SPH: -1.00; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 174 and Left) SPH: -1.25, CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 14. However he wrote me a lower prescription. SPH was -0.75 (right) and -1.00 (left). He told me that my eyes would get worse if I had the stronger prescription. At first, it was slightly harder to see with these new glasses. But I think I’ve gotten used to them and my old glasses seem a little strong and I can definitely tell the difference in astigmatism correction.

Yesterday, I went in for a contact lens fitting and the pair he gave me to try out are weaker than my glasses. The prescription for the contact lens read a little differently than the glasses. Instead of "SPH" they say "D". The contact lens prescription is as follows Right) D; -0.50; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 170 and Left) D: -0.75; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 10. I told my doctor that it’s harder to see even though I can "read the letters on the wall". I want to make sure I’m getting the right prescriptions. I know I have a relatively low prescription. I’m a 28 year old male in good health with no history or medical issues.

    Thanks in advance.

Are Contact Lens Prescriptions Different from Spectacle Ones?

I recently started wearing toric contact lenses for after wearing spectacles for 24 years. I have noticed that my contact lens power (both spherical and cylindrical) are lesser than my spectacle power. My vision using contact lenses is blurry. Can I use the same prescription for contacts as well as spectacles?

Spectacle power: SPH: -7.00, CYL: -2.00, Axis: 180 (both eyes)
Contact Power: SPH: -6.50, CYL: -1.75, Axis: 180 (both eyes)

How Do I Convert My Contact Lens Prescription into Mail Order Contact Lens Standards?

I received a prescription from my eye doctor for contacts and need to order them online from a provider for my insurance company.

    The prescription is: -3.50 -1.50 X 095
    -3.25 -1.75 X 055

However, the options to pick online are not the same, except for the power. Can someone help me figure out the best prescription to send in for contacts. I have to order Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism soft contacts.

For example, for the cylinder options, the options are -1.25 or -1.75.

For the axis options, it only has powers of ten. So, do I round up or down if my axis prescription falls in between?

Can someone modify my prescription for me so that I can order online?

I ordered contact lenses w/ my glasses’ prescritption, and now I think the contact lens’ one is higher…will this hurt my vision? My eyeglasses prescription is -3.00 on both eyes, -.75 cylinder, 10 axis on the right, and -1.25, 160 axis on the left. This is what I used for my contacts. Thanks!
Sorry about the repeat above, guys. Also, do you know how long it would take to get my eye accustomed to the higher prescription (i.e. become worse)?
