I’ve always been told my vision is 20/20. Recently I went to get an eye exam so that I could get plano lenses to change my eye color a little, and the optometrist said I needed a mild prescription:

Right…
Sphere: -0.25
Cylinder: -0.75
Axis: 020

Left…
Sphere: -0.25
Cylinder: -0.25
Axis: 175

What do these measurements mean? And is it advisable to ask for plain lenses anyway? I’ve never worn a prescription before and I don’t really see a point to wearing them if my vision seems fine.

i mean when buying contacts online..i know all values except the axis..is there any default value i can use for axis n both eyes?
the problem is, i did the eye testing for contact lenses and when they told me the price it was really too much..for 6 months. i can get for less than half that price online. but when i asked for the prescription they did not give it. i must go again and tell them I am willing to pay for the prescription..and i have no idea of buying from them cos its too expensive. they have nothing to lose..only gain by me paying for the rx really.

I only have the eyeglass prescription though which is:
sp +.75 cylinder -.50 and axis 90 (for both eyes)
My optometrist recommended glasses to me, not contacts because contacts with farsightedness and my astigmatisms are only 80% effective (compared to 95% effective with glasses). He also said it the contacts would be complicated to get right.
Anyway, if I were to get contacts someday, would it be pretty expensive due to this complicated Rx? Does anyone know around how much? Our vision insurance is not that great, so it would be an out-of-pocket expense.

My brother got a lens prescription with only one eye showing some astigmatism: Cylinder -0.25 (Axis 85)

Since the lowest increment with prescriptions is .25 (e.g., 1.25, 1.50, 1.75… etc) I was wondering how I amportant it is that I get hI am toric lenses for that eye (i.e. for astigmatism).

Problem is most companies sell toric lenses starting with .50 or .75 (cylinder), and also the idea of buying two types of lenses (normal and toric) is off-putting.
Custom made lenses are one solution but too expensive.
I should also note that, in the past, I’ve ordered myself lenses that were .25 off from my prescription in cylinder and power, and it made no difference to me.

So bottom line: should I ignore the -.25 astigmatism and just order normal lenses?
Expert or informed opinions please.

I just recently began trying contact lens. I don’t think I’m necessarily nearsighted or farsighted, but instead have focus issues. When I received my glasses, I was able to wear them for both near and far.

The number for the Power of my lens is +0.00, which is what I’m wondering about. The Cylinder number is +1.25, which I believe is for astigmatism. The Axis number is 180.

Based on these numbers, can anyone tell me what, if anything, they are doing for my vision? I want to make sure that I’m wearing these things for a reason, and I don’t really want to question my eye doctor about it.

If i have astigmatism, and my degree is

(left): -3.50 (SPH) -1.25 (CYL) x 170 (AXIS)
(right): -2.25 (SPH) -1.25 (CYL) x 180 (AXIS)

Then if i wear contact lens that are -3.75 (left) and -2.75 (right),
would it make a big difference :/

On my contact prescription, both of my eyes are exactly the same, except for the axis. My right eye has a 90 axis and my left eye has an 80 axis. Does a difference of 10 really make a huge difference? Is it possible to just to order one box of contacts with a 90 axis and use it for both eyes. I don’t have an extra 0 bucks for both boxes of contacts right now and my current contact just ripped. Will it matter much?

OK I didn’t think that the CYL and AXIS mattered in contacts… my right eye is -.75 CYL and 056 AXIS, my left is -1.25 CYL and 002 AXIS. Does that change anything?

I recently had cataract surgery and the AcrySof Toric IOL I amplanted in one eye. At the first checkup, my vision was:

SPH: +1.25
CYL: Nil
AXIS: Nil

Just 2 days ago, my follow up revealed the following

SPH: +1.00
CYL: -0.50
AXIS: 160

Q: During this period, I developed about -0.50 D of astigmatism. What are the chances of my Astig progressing until I’ll be needing astigmatic correction in the future?

Q: I hear from my surgeon that some form of astigmatism can be beneficial for my overall vision. What qualify it as "beneficial astigmatism"?

Q: It is believed that mild level of astigmatism does not warrant correction. What range is considered as "mild"? Will my current level of astigmatism require vision correction?

Q: My concern is since my IOL is a toric lens, initial tests showed that it corrected 100% of my astigmatism. The sudden appearance of -0.50 D of Astig, may mean the IOL is rotating inside my eye, thus negating any correction by the IOL? How likely is that the case?

This is gonna sound stupid but i have astigmatism but i would like to wear regular contacts. I dont know so il put my prescription
SPH -6.00, -7.50 / CYL -2.25 (both) / Axis 180 (both) / B.C 8.6 / DIA 14.5
How bad would i see if say if i got regular contacts since i dont really just want to throw away money. I mean its not like I need a hawk’s vision since I sit in front of class and work is really in front my face and the majority of things I do I dont need to see very far away or 100% clear. I ask cuz i would like to try different brands and even colors but I cant since i have astigmatism. Like I want to try those 30 day extendable wear contacts since sometI ames I forget and I sleep with them (stupid me). Would say can I just get them without astigmatism correction, like companies advertise free trials so I guess I would not risk losing money and try them out to see if its a really big difference.
