Are There Any Health Risks to Wearing Steeper Base Curve Contact Lenses for a Few Hours?

I have a box of contact lenses that have a base curve of 8.5 but my previous boxes had a base curve of 9.0 (same brand). I only need to wear them about once a week for 2 to 3 hours. Would there be any health risks/damage to my eyes?

What Is the Standard Base Curve for Contact Lenses?

What is the standard base curve for contact lenses? My insurance covers a check up every 2 years and I just got a check up and the doctor didn’t check my base curve or diameter. I can’t afford another check up, so I what wondering if there is a standard base curve. If the standard base curve is not 8.4, 8.7, or 9.0, which one should I pick?

          Contact Lenses?????????????

is there any website that i can get contact lens that actually have my prescription diameter and Base Curve size? Ive been to a lot of websites and a lot of them seem to have a set number of diameter you can choose such as 14 and for base curve such as 8.6 or something. is this because this is the standard eye base cure and diameter?

Why Do Different Manufacturers of Contact Lens Have Different Dimensions?

Why is it that Ciba Vision/Focus Dailies only make lenses with Base Curves of 8.6 and Diameters of 13.8

            whereas

Johnson & Johnson/Acuvue only make lenses of Base Curve 8.5 and Diameter 14.2????

            I don’t understand.

Does that then mean that depending on your prescription, you are restricted to which company you can buy lenses from???

Is There a Big Difference Between 8.3 and 8.6 Base Curve in Contact Lenses?

My contact lens prescription is 8.3 base curve, 14.0 diameter and -3.25 strength. Can I wear contacts that have an 8.6 base curve comfortably and safely, or will they slide around/effect my vision? I’ve been wearing contacts since I was about 10, so I know how to take care of them, etc, and I know that a 14.0 diameter is much different than a 14.5 or a 15.0 because my optometrist had me try on the different sizes to see the difference, but he never mentioned base curve to me.

Thanks so much for your input!

Has Anyone Ever Bought Extrem Fx Contact Lenses??

For Halloween I am ordering extreme fx contacts to complement my costume. The ones i want to order are the Pinhead/Black gloss ones ( the ones which my your eye look like a single big black dilated pupil) My question is, even though the base curve is the same as my normal contacts ( 8.6), does the diameter affect the way the lens fits?? ( my normal contacts diameter is 14.2, the diameter for these is 15.0)
Oh and if anyone has ever worn these specific lens…how is the vision through them?? is it like normal lens??…Thanks!

Can I Buy Just One Eye's Worth of Contacts Lenses Online?

I wear soft, aspheric lenses. I have the same Power (-3.25) in both eyes, the same Base Curve (8.7) and the same Diameter (14.3). When you come to the check out on nearly every contact lens sight it doubles the amount of money so you’re buying one lot for both eyes. However, if I have exactly the same prescription, surely I can just buy an L or R set (those who have bought online will know what I’m on about).

Another thing too… even though I’m wearing aspheric lenses, my optometrist says that my astigmatism is very mild. Does this mean that I can get away with just normal lenses?

I’m also looking for some lenses that are aspheric, but coloured.

            Loads of questions/requests, I know.
            Thanks in advance!

            Lucy..

My Ophthalmologist Didn't Specify Some Measurements Required for Getting Contact Lenses, Should I Be Worried?

I mean, he knew I was there to check if it was ok for me to wear them, he gave me my lens prescription, and it lacks the diameter and base curve, and i don’t know what other measurement, and he just put down i should get "acuvue", but didn’t specify which kind. I tried to buy some, but they told me they wouldn’t sell them to me!
I’m planning on going back to my dr. to ask hI am to fill in the missing info, but it makes me wonder if he knows what he’s doing at all? Is it common for doctors to forget this sort of thing?

            Contact Lens Diameter Importance?

I recently got an eye exam and my first contact lens fitting. On my prescription, I was given the strength, and brand of my contacts. I called my optician’s office a few days later asking the secretary to look through my records and tell me what my Base Curve and Diameter was since it was omitted from my prescription. I found out that my Base Curve was 8.6 but the secretary stated there was nothing on record about the Diameter? So what the heck does that mean? Is the Diameter of my contacts not I amportant?
My contact brand is Coopervision’s Biofinity Sphere. I looked online for the contacts and at certain contact stores they offer different Diameters? That’s why I was kind off thrown off? It only comes in one Base Curve, but I don’t know what’s up with the Diameters and I’m frankly surprised nothing was written down on my record =/
I checked Coopervision’s website (http://www.coopervision.com/us/patient/contactlenses/brands/biofinity/biofinity/) under the related topics there’s a .pdf file called "biofinity package insert" and on the first page it says:

BIOFINITY SPHERE and ASPHERE contact lenses parameters:
            o Diameter: 13.5 mm to 15.0 mm
o Base Curve: 8.0 mm to 9.5 mm
o Center Thickness: 0.08 mm to 0.15 mm (varies with power)
            o Powers: -20.00 D to +20.0 D

Should I go see my optician in person and clear this up?

Do you even have halloween lenses in stock that you would need for the fitting? What if the lens I want is the exact same base curve and diameter of my prescription lenses? Please give me some insight. Thank you!

I Want Coloured Contacts, Can I Buy Them Online or Do I Need an Eye Doc?

All the online websites selling coloured contacts claI am to be cheapest so I would like to go that route rather than a pricy lens fitting and buying a box of lenses. I have reg. contacts, would I be able to just buy some coloured ones online with a sI amilar size to my contacts. I can’t find my exact size.
My Base Curve is 8.6 and diameter is 14.2
Would buying lenses with the numbers slightly off, but close just fall off my eyeball or ruin my sight?

Color Contact Lens Diameter from 14.4 to 14.2?

I have a prescription with a base curve 8.7 and diameter 14.4. i tried the lenses but they didn’t fit o.O
On the internet i found some cool lenses that are 8.6 with a diameter of 14.2. I want to try them out.

I would love to go to the eyeshop and show them if they fit.
But wouldn’t it be weird since they are bought from the internet.

So won’t it be a problem if i just try them out myself and see if they fit or not?

How Do I Understand What Contact Lens Size to Get?

I need to buy some colored contact lenses to complete a cosplay I’m working on, but I literally know nothing about contact lenses and their sizes. There’s all kinds of information of diameter, base curve, water content and power, but how do I figure which category should be what size for me?
