I don’t have any vision insurance, but I need to either get contacts or have lasik. Since I am still young, 23, people have said to hol off on lasik. I know you do need a contact lens exam to get a contact lens prescription. Does anyone know the best/most affordable place to do this? Would lenscrafters be good, or someplace like Walmarts vision center be better?

I got an eye exam for contact lenses last year and I got trial contact lenses and all, but then I stopped wanting them, but now I need them again because my eye sight got worse.

Does that mean I have to pay AGAIN to get my contact lens prescription? Can I also pay for trial contact lenses or is that only if you pay to get the practice contact lens session and stuff? Thank you!

hi! my prescription is as follows:

Right eye:
Spherical–0.50
Cylindrical–1.50
Axis-20 degrees

Left eye:
Spherical-0.00
Cylindrical–1.25
Axis-170 degrees

Please someone suggest which type of contacts should i go for-torics or any other, coz i visited an optician recently who suggested that i should not go for torics considering my cylindrical number is not that high. But i have heard that people with cylindrical number should always go for torics. My age is 20 and i have been wearing glasses for about 1.5-2 years. Also the optician i visited gave me a contact lens pair to try which wasn’t torics and i felt comfortable wearing them, though i tried them for only for a few minutes. I have never tried contact lens before. Please someone suggest me as to what type of contacts should i go for…thanks a lot!
The optician gave me those lens for using only for 5 minutes and i have read in many forums that people often are not comfortable wearing torics..and if i should only go for torics, then which is the best brand of torics and its price? and is there something called the diameter of the eyeball and do opthalmologists in India measure the eyeball before giving the contact lens prescription because i have read that the various parameters of the eye like the diameter of the eyeball, etc, vary from person to person and the contacts have to be custom made to fit the eyes of an individual…please suggest…thanks a lot!

I was curious because I recently noticed that my hard contact lens prescription are -8.25 for the right eye and -7.25 for the left eye. First of all, how bad are my eyes exactly? Also, I am only 19 yrs. old so is there a chance that there could be some serious consequences if my eyes continue to deteriorate at this rate?

My contact lens prescription is 8.3 base curve, 14.0 diameter and -3.25 strength. Can I wear contacts that have an 8.6 base curve comfortably and safely, or will they slide around/effect my vision? I’ve been wearing contacts since I was about 10, so I know how to take care of them, etc, and I know that a 14.0 diameter is much different than a 14.5 or a 15.0 because my optometrist had me try on the different sizes to see the difference, but he never mentioned base curve to me.

I am 35 years old. I have been wearing glasses since I was 5. Since I was about 15 I have been wearing contact lenses. I have horrible vision and really bad astigmatism. My contact lens prescription is -9.50. For the last year or so I’ve noticed my eyes seem to be less and less tolerant of my contact lenses. I use soft, disposable contacts and I am very very clean and take all precautions when using them..I always have, but lately, I just cannot stand wearing them. My eyes are chronically red and my contacts just hurt. I’ve been forced to use my (very thick) glasses, and even if I have the absolute thinnest hi-index lens possible for my glasses, they’re still thick! Is it possible that with age, this is how it is? Your eyes just grow less tolerant to contact lenses? Has anyone else experienced this? Help!

I wear contact lenses most of the time. My contact lens prescription is the same for both eyes (-3.0). I’m thinking of getting a pair of glasses. My eye glasses prescription states my left eye (OS) is -3.25, while my right eye (OD) is -3.0. Lately I have been noticing that I seem to be straining to use my left eye more so than my right, sometimes tilting my head so my left eye is closer to what I am looking at. I feel as though I am using my right eye less. Doesn’t this go against my prescription suggesting that my left eye is actually stronger than the right, as I rely on it more, or is this a result of straining to use my left eye?
I’m not sure what you mean? I should add that these are not new prescriptions (they are about a yr and a half old, the contacts one is actually expired. Also, this straining isnt extreme and only started recently. Furthermore, I’m just looking to get the glasses to have them, not as a result of this issue.

this is my current contact lens prescription (my real prescription is slightly different because i guess there isn’t a contact lens that matches my left eye perfectly):
left eye: +2.75 -1.25 x 070
right eye: +1.50 -0.75 x 100
first, every site i find tells me that i have hyperopia (i am far sighted). i don’t understand why, because i have trouble seeing objects that are far away, and things that are near are crystal clear.
second, every site i find has an astigmatism sign that matches the first number, why are my signs different? what is the name for the type of astigmatism that i have?
third, can somebody explain the degree to me? what does 70 mean? is this like a line on my eye where the astigmatism occurs?

Ok, I am 13 years old and 20/80 vision. Yeah I know, it is bad. Anyway, I am going to the contact lens fitting in a couple days. Can you please answer these questions?
-What is the fitting like?

Hi

My current contact lens prescription has an axis of 90 in one eye (R) and 80 in the other (L). My glasses prescription is 95 and 77.5.

I’m looking to change my lens type from fortnightly to dailies, so have been looking to see what is available here in the UK.

It seems that the closest axis available with the lenses that I could use is an axis of 90. I know with my current prescription that one eye is 5 out and the other is 2.5 degrees out (90 v 95 and 80 v 77.5), but would a difference of 12.5 be too much (ie. 77.5 v 90)?

I’d just like to know whether this is doable, before spending money on a formal optician consultation.

My full glasses prescription is:

R: -1.00 -1.25 95
L: -1.00 -1.00 77.5

My glasses prescription is R: -4.00/-1.00×160
L: -5.00/-1.00×20
The optometrist suggested me wearing toric contact lenses with
R: -3.75/-0.75×160
L: -4.75/-0.75×20
since -1.00cyl is not in the contact lens range.

.She said my sph needed to be reduced 0.25 because contact lens is much closer to the eye. But,since the cyl for both eyes are reduced 0.25 too,based on my experience,the sph for both eyes should be increased to cover the astigmatism.

Even in the previous non-toric contact lens prescription, the optometrist added just another 0.25 to my sph to cover the -1.00 cyl.

But,it didn’t turn out well.

so,this time,I’m not sure with her prescription. I think it should be R: -4.00/-0.75×160
L: -5.00/-0.75×20

what do you think?…help please…I’m gonna where the lenses for 1 year,so I need to make sure.

I went to an IRIS optometrist and got an eye exam which i payed 95$. Than i asked for a contact lens fitting which he charged 50$. He gave me a sample set of contacts to try and i asked for my contact lens prescription. He said he couldn’t give me my contact lens prescription because that information is classified. He gave me the contacts without the box in another case. I was wondering if he is legally required to give me my prescription since i payed for it and considering that they charge 60-70$ per box, when other places charge oly15-20$ per box? thank you!!

I got my glasses prescription from the optometrist and went to the glasses store and they converted it to a contact lens prescription and i got my contact but i had problem with one of my eye so i went to the store and told them they checked my prescription and they said that the contact lense i got were infact according to the prescription ( the eye i am having problem with is the left eye no astigmatism -2.5 power) ok so they say taht go to the optometrist and get your eyes checked again i go back and the optometrist tells me that they dont deal with contact lens problems and that i should get glasses made so now my question is if i get glasses made and my prescription is styll wrong then obviosly ill have to get a new prescription and make new glasses when i get this new prescription from my optometrist will it be my optometrist fault for giving me the wrong prescription in the first place and would he cover the cost of new lenses in my glasses?

I have a very light contact lens prescription, and I went to take my contacts out tonight after a very long day… got the left one out with no problem (a little sticky from being tired) but I tried to get the right one out with no luck. I recently got new lenses in my eye glasses to match my contact lens prescription. I’ve had glasses before, it was just an update. I was instructed to wear them a few days to get used to them. I can see clear if I focus on an object for a second or two, but if I look at multiple things in a short period of tI ame, I get dizzy. I’m so frustrated- I needed to refill my contact lens prescription, and I just missed my eye clinic’s cut-off date of 1-year. I’m kicking myself for not calling earlier.

Anyways, I really, really don’t want to pay their 6.00 for a check-up … I mean, to charge that every year and require that every year seems excessive to me. But I know, they do it to keep us healthy and not screw us over, right?
