A couple of questions.

The name of my contact lens in SIH 48 (Monthly ultI amate). Having looked online I have found it under the name of biofinity, and they claI am they are continuous wear lenses (for up to 29 days), however my optician told me I could wear them for 12-14 hours per day. Is this right?

Second, my prescription for both eyes is the same, sph: -0.75, and cyl: -0.5 (I think, because I believe she has forgotten to put the minus sign).

This is different from my glasses prescription, right eye, sph:-0.5, cyl: -0.5

left eye, sph:-0.5, cyl: -0.25.

I really just want to confirm that this prescription is correct, since I have been searching on the internet and I am unable to choose a measurement for cyl for this type of lens. Is it possible she just wrote down the cyl even though that’s not for my lenses?
Footprintz, I live in the UK, and I assure you this is not a trial. I went for my final recheck yesterday, and these lenses were finalised. I went to Specsavers, and I definitely got a contact lens prescription, which has a cylindrical fitting. I am aware this fitting cannot be purchased.

Thanks for your help Footprintz. To be honest I think I for my glasses my prescription should be the same for each eye, which would explain the contact lens ‘sph’. I phoned them up today and asked them to send me another prescription just in case, since I actually had to ask the optician for my prescription yesterday.

I know that my contact lens prescription is -8.00. I figure my glasses prescription will be a little bit less. I am going for my annual exam tomorrow. My contact lens prescription is:

Right eye: -3.25
Left eye: – 5.50

My eyeglass prescription is:
Right eye: -3.50
Left eye: -6.25

I’m wondering why there seems to be such a vast difference in my eyeglass and contact prescription for my LEFT eye. I’ve heard that it will typically be around a .25 to .50 difference?

I had a thorough eye check-up about a year ago, but I mainly went in for a contact lens fitting (doctor noted down eyeglass presc. as well) – I only asked for the eyeglass prescription now because I need new eyeglasses and when I took a look at the prescription, I was a little surprised.

I plan to take the prescription in and get new eyeglasses without doing a checkup. (We’ve moved since, so I can’t go back to the same doctor).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If my glasses prescription is OD -3.00 Spec’s and OS -3.00, what would my contact lens prescription be?

I recently purchased some glasses lens. Problem is, I can barely see through these glasses. I noticed when I looked at my prescription that my glasses prescription had the exact same numbers as my contact lens prescription.

Are glasses/contacts lens prescriptions supposed to be different? I have heard so in the past. This would certainly explain why I feel like I am underwater or something.

Ok, here’s the scoop. My contact lens prescription never changes. It’s just a formality that I have to go through every tI ame I have to order new contacts. Is there a way I can get contacts without jumping through all these hoops?

I’m Army so my eyes do get checked every year, but they don’t do contact lens prescriptions.
Yes, I know I can get them online, but I have to still provide a prescription, for instance if I get it at 1800 contacts.com.

Also, for the first answer, I know the purpose of having the exam, I just don’t want to waste my tI ame and money, seeing as how I know the result.

I went last week to get a contact lens fitting and the doctor hI amself put a pair on me, but then I found out they want an extra so I can go again for them to teach me how to put them in. I figure I’ll just get the prescription and order some and put it on myself. I went today and the lady said they have to teach me how to put it on, as required by law, and charge me the or else they cannot give me the prescription.

So, I went to http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/health/bus62.shtm and read that they have to give me my prescription after a contact lens fitting is done without any extra fees. So, based on my current situation, are they obligated to give me my contact lens prescription for free?
so can I do anything about the they’re charging me?

Hi everyone,

is there an exact/set standard description that a contact lens prescription has to have, for Acuvue2 Colours (this is the example I’m using in my report)? Or does it just need to be composed of certain details (by the doctor of course), such as power, name (and can it vary?), diameter, etc for a prescription to be legally accepted?

Such as, "-1.75 Johnson & Johnson Acuvue2 Colours – Grey"
or "Acuvue2 Colours – Grey (-1.75)"

I am doing a research on laws regarding prescriptioned drugs, but the eye doctors I’ve called won’t answer or don’t even know the answer. If someone has their own prescription available, a scanned copy of it (any brand any type) or just the name it says in the prescription would be a great help… Please delete out any personal/doctor’s information.

I think the first answerer gave me the reading from the box. Do you have the description from your prescription?

And for answerer2, does that mean that the patient will be prescribed "Acuvue2′s" instead of "Acuvue2 Colours"?

Is there any way to tell what my prescription (for glasses) is based my contact lens prescription?
My contact prescription says something like:
BC 8.6
DIA 14.2
PWR -4.75
And for glasses, I need to know:
Sphere (SPH), Cylinder (CYL), Axis, PD (Pupil Distance), Mono R, Mono L, and Near PD?
I already have glasses, but I have no idea what the prescription for them is.

6 months ago I went to a new eye doctor. I hadn’t been to the optometrist in 5 years. All I know from my old prescription was Right SPH: -1.25 and Left SPH: -1.75 and I have an astigmatism. I had no problems except at night things were a little blurrier and my glasses broke.

The new doctor "inherited" my file and after an examination (machine test and he checked them out) said my eyes had gotten better, but the astigmatism worsened. He said that my new vision was Right) SPH: -1.00; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 174 and Left) SPH: -1.25, CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 14. However he wrote me a lower prescription. SPH was -0.75 (right) and -1.00 (left). He told me that my eyes would get worse if I had the stronger prescription. At first, it was slightly harder to see with these new glasses. But I think I’ve gotten used to them and my old glasses seem a little strong and I can definitely tell the difference in astigmatism correction.

Yesterday, I went in for a contact lens fitting and the pair he gave me to try out are weaker than my glasses. The prescription for the contact lens read a little differently than the glasses. Instead of "SPH" they say "D". The contact lens prescription is as follows Right) D; -0.50; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 170 and Left) D: -0.75; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 10. I told my doctor that it’s harder to see even though I can "read the letters on the wall". I want to make sure I’m getting the right prescriptions. I know I have a relatively low prescription. I’m a 28 year old male in good health with no history or medical issues.

I have an appointment for a contact lens exam/fitting…the only way I can get a contact lens prescription from the eye doctor is if I purchase a package deal which will cost a total of 300.00 inc. a 6 month supply of contacts and the exam/fitting…otherwise the eye doctor will not give me my prescription…The FTC did pass a law in 2004 regarding release of lens prescription but is there a loophole that allows them to do such a thing as a package deal?

I am 23 years old and have been wearing contact lenses and glasses since I was in first grade (so since I was 6). My contact lens prescription is currently a -8.00 in both eyes. I’m going for my annual exam tomorrow to see if they’ve changed. I was going to ask the doctor about Lasik while I was there but I figured I’d ask for some information on here first. Is my prescription easily correctable or is it too severe to get 20/20 vision from Lasik? Also, I was told I have blood vessels growing onto my cornea from wearing my contact lenses for too long (I did this as a kid; since I found out it is detrI amental to my eyes I’ve only worn my contacts for probably 5 hours everyday tops). Will this cause a problem with the Lasik procedure?
