Contact Lens Solutions?

I’ve got three different brands of contact lens solution that have been stored at my parents’ house for about a year or a year and a half. I don’t live with my parents, but am currently visiting them for an extended period of time. I would like to know:

1) Is it okay to use 3 different brands interchangeably (i.e. I have Opti-Free, equate and ReNu) , or is that not advisable for some reason and messes up the contacts somehow if they are exposed to isotonic solutions that are slightly different?

2) All three solutions are within their expiration dates, however, I have had them opened and not used them for at least 6-8 months. They have been stored at room temperature in a dark place. Can I still use them, or is it not advisable to use them if they have been sitting out after being opened for that long in the medicine cabinet?

Thanks!

Help Soothing an Allergic Reaction to Contact Lens Solution?

    Hi everyone,

I had unknowingly developed an allergic reaction to the contact lens solution I had been using for three months (Opti-Free Replenish), I only really noticed about two weeks ago when my eyelids started to become swollen and my eyes were either bloodshot or looked sore.

So I went to the opticians last week and she confirmed I was allergic to the solution and gave me a Hydrogen Peroxide Solution to use, the problem is I’ve barely had any wear time on my contacts other than a few hours here and there due to my eyes still being irritated from my reaction to the previous solution.

I wake up every day with slightly swollen eyelids and throughout the day my eye becomes slightly cloudy, not full on bloodshot, but cloudy and a bit sore.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips to help me with the discomfort I’m having, I’m seeing my optician tomorrow evening but until then I’d appreciate any tips and tricks you may have.

Thank you to anyone that answers.

Should I Throw Away My Contact Lens Solution Bottle if It Touched the Tip of My Finger?

I am pretty anal about my contact lens routine. First, I open my contact lens case and then open my contact lens solution bottle. Then I wash my hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. I do this so that after washing my hands, I don’t need to touch anything else. I then take out a contact lens, put it in the palm of my hand, rinse it with fresh solution, then put it on my eye.

Today, however, i accidently touched the side of the tip of the contact lens solution bottle with my finger. After washing my hands, the only other surface that that finger touched was my rinsed contact lens before I put it in my eye.

it’s a brand new contact lens solution bottle and HUGE, so I really don’t want to throw it away, but i don’t want to risk an eye infection either. If I do throw it away, this will be the second full contact lens solution bottle that I threw away within weeks.

What do you think? i wear soft contact lens that i change every month and i use opti-free…the huge ones you can get from costco.

      Thanks in advance everyone.
Haha yes…i told you i was anal! any other response? seems pretty unanimous so far =)

        Contact Lens Solution Usage Dilemma?

I was using the AMO’s Complete no-rub solution for about 6 months, before I came to know of their recall. My friends suggested Opti-free. So I have been using it now for about a month. Last night, I left my contact lens solution bottle open in my bathroom counter and realized it in the morning. So the bottle was left open for like 8-9 hours. I just wanted to know is it safe to use it again? Thanks for your interest and replies! :-)

Opti-Free Replenish Contact Lens Solution. Can I Use It As Eye Drops?

            Hi,

I wear soft contact lens. Lately I’m experiencing dry-eye problem and I was told by a doctor to constantly use eye drops until winter is over. But the problem is that eye drops are soooo expensive.

I was wondering if I can simply use my contact lens solution as my eye drops during the day. I use Opti-Free Replenish Contact Lens Solution. Is it possible? dangerous? safe? stupid idea?? Please help. Thanks!

Do I Need a Prescription to Buy an IV Bag of Plain Normal Saline (0.9% NaCl)?

I’m talking about saline that can be administered intravenously or subcutaneously, NOT a contact lens solution. My cat is dehydrated and I have a friend who is a veterinary technician, so she knows how to insert IVs on cats and dogs. I know, it’s not technically a drug, but can I buy one at any pharmacy without a prescription?
I have never seen NaCl bags OTC. Of course you don’t need a prescription for over the couter drugs, that is why they are over the counter. Like I said, I’m talking about a clinical-quality IV bag of NS. JUST saline, no drugs to push into it.
The Vet thinks the cause of his dehydration is from Feline Hyperthyroidism. We aren’t 100% sure yet. We’re waiting on the lab results to confirm the Dx. For now, all we can do is keep hI am comfortable and hydrated. I’m giving hI am 1 oz of Pedialyte q2h.

Can I Carry-on a 4 Oz Bottle of My Contact Lens Solution?

The website says it is allowed under medications over 3 oz. I understand that I must declare the bottle to the security officers at the security line, but will they allow it to pass? Since contact lens solution is not a prescription medication, will they allow it?

Can I Soak My Contact Lens Using a Contact Lens Lubricant Instead of a Contact Lens Solution?

I don’t have Contact Lens Solution left so I asked my mother to buy me a bottle. She gave me a Lens Lubricant instead of a Contact Lens Solution. I don’t have anything to soak my contact lens in so I had to use the Lubricant. So is it bad to use the lubricant as a soaking medium for the contact lens?

What Are Some More Uses for Soft Contact Lens Cleaning Solution. I Have Like 5 Bottles and Some Are About to?

              some are about to expire.

I bought a whole case of them cuz they were on sale, like 2 years ago, but i didn’t realize they had an expiration date LOL

It’s the kind of contact lens solution that cleans, rinses, disinfects, stores, and removes protein.
Can i wash windows with this junk or clean other things? It seems to kinda leave a smudge though, if i clean glossy surfaces.
Or, maybe i can just use this stuff past the expire date???

Help! Accidentally Used Hard Contact Lens Solution on Soft Contacts…?

Without realizing it I accidentally used hard contact lens solution on a very expensive pair of soft contact lenses. After severe burning in my eyes I figured something must be wrong and it was indeed the solution after all… is there any way to salvage the lenses without having to buy a new pair? I put them in the proper solution and they’ve been soaking for a few days, how long will it take for the old solution to be completely replaced by absorbing the new one?
My eyes are fine as of now, the burning only happens when I put them in and for a few minutes right after I take them out… as it is I probably wont wear them anymore :(

Cartilage Piercing Cleaning with Contact Solution?

Okay, so i got my cartilage pierced with a needle (if this has any effect) and i ran out of the cleaning solution they gave me so on a whI am I went and bought a saline contact lens solution because it has the same active ingredient as the professional solution (sodium chloride) which is the same active ingredient in the saline contact solution.

Is it okay to keep using this stuff???

If not what can I use and don’t tell me hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol because you shouldn’t used them because they slow down the healing process?

              Thanks

Is It Bad to Put Contact Lenses in Straight from the Bottle/packet?

The cosmetic contact lenses that I ordered arrived today and being very excited, I wanted to open them and put them in I ammediately. It’s my first tI ame wearing contact lenses. The only thing is, I don’t have any multi-purpose contact lens solution to soak them in as the bottle said to do.

In an action that may or may not have been stupid, I ignored the instruction and put them in anyway. It really hurt my eyes (I’m quite sure I put them in the right way and everything) so after about five/ten minutes, I took them out and my eyes returned to normal almost instantly.

So my question is, do you HAVE to buy lens solution to store the lenses in or are they fine in the water/saline/copolymer Methafilcon solution that they come in?

Also, the lenses moved around quite a bit whenever I blinked. I read up on this and now know that they are SUPPOSED to move when you blink, but this was to an almost uncomfortable degree. As in, I could feel them moving and see them moving up and down over my pupil. Is this normal?

              Thanks in advance. ^^

Can I Store My Contacts in EXPIRED but UNOPENED “Blink-N-Clean Lens Drops (eye Drops) Solution?

I’m in a bit of an odd situation. I am in a 3rd world country that doesn’t have 24/7 places to buy lens solution, etc. So I had to wear disposable contacts today, and I don’t have a case nor any solution to store them in. But I found an unopened bottle of eye drops. Can I store my lens in 2 plastic cups covered in wrap, with these eye drops as a substitute for contact lens solution? Any quick and helpful response is MUCH appreciated!!

Allergies to Contact Lenses or Solution?

I have been using Opti-Free Contact Lens Solution and after I have contacts in for a few minutes my eyes itch, burn, and turn red. I know it’s an allergic reaction because the skin around my eye starts itching and peeling.

Is this allergies to the Solution or Lens? I even bought new brand of contacts and same thing happens. What can I do?
