I Want Coloured Contacts, Can I Buy Them Online or Do I Need an Eye Doc?

All the online websites selling coloured contacts claI am to be cheapest so I would like to go that route rather than a pricy lens fitting and buying a box of lenses. I have reg. contacts, would I be able to just buy some coloured ones online with a sI amilar size to my contacts. I can’t find my exact size.
My Base Curve is 8.6 and diameter is 14.2
Would buying lenses with the numbers slightly off, but close just fall off my eyeball or ruin my sight?

Have Worn Contact Lenses for Years. Why Are They Suddenly So Uncomfortable?

I have worn contact lenses for ten years. I’ve never had any trouble.

In June I went to the eye doctor for my yearly exam and got a new contact prescription. The contacts the doctor ordered for me were so uncomfortable. They were the same curve and diameter as my previous prescription, so I assumed that it was the new brand of contact lens that made them so uncomfortable; especially my right eye.

I went through a six month supply of contact lenses in three months. The right eye lenses kept ripping!

I figured the doctor had ordered me some cheap crap, and that was the problem. So I went online to try another brand. This brand is thinner, but the diameter and curve are .1 larger than my prescription (they only came in that one size).

They are still so uncomfortable. I bought a different solution, thinking that maybe I’ve developed an allergy to the solution that I’ve used for the last ten years, but that hasn’t helped. I’ve had them in for two hours, and I’m already about to take them out for the day.

I’ve worn contacts for years, and suddenly they irritate my eyes! What gives?

How Do I Tell if a Non-Canon Lens Will Fit on My Canon EOS 400D?

I am new to photography and I want to buy a Nikon lens (the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D) for my Canon EOS 400D but I don’t know how to tell if it will fit onto/be compatible with my camera. If anyone can tell me how to tell whether a lens is compatible with my camera or not, I would really appreciate it. Eg, is there a standard for the diameter of the lens? Or a standard contact position? etc. Cheers!

Color Contact Lens Diameter from 14.4 to 14.2?

I have a prescription with a base curve 8.7 and diameter 14.4. i tried the lenses but they didn’t fit o.O
On the internet i found some cool lenses that are 8.6 with a diameter of 14.2. I want to try them out.

I would love to go to the eyeshop and show them if they fit.
But wouldn’t it be weird since they are bought from the internet.

So won’t it be a problem if i just try them out myself and see if they fit or not?

Contact Prescription Name – Acuvue2 Colours?

Hi everyone,

is there an exact/set standard description that a contact lens prescription has to have, for Acuvue2 Colours (this is the example I’m using in my report)? Or does it just need to be composed of certain details (by the doctor of course), such as power, name (and can it vary?), diameter, etc for a prescription to be legally accepted?

Such as, "-1.75 Johnson & Johnson Acuvue2 Colours – Grey"
or "Acuvue2 Colours – Grey (-1.75)"

I am doing a research on laws regarding prescriptioned drugs, but the eye doctors I’ve called won’t answer or don’t even know the answer. If someone has their own prescription available, a scanned copy of it (any brand any type) or just the name it says in the prescription would be a great help… Please delete out any personal/doctor’s information.

I can assure the answerer that the information will be used ONLY for research/informational purposes. Thank you!
I think the first answerer gave me the reading from the box. Do you have the description from your prescription?

And for answerer2, does that mean that the patient will be prescribed "Acuvue2′s" instead of "Acuvue2 Colours"?

Does anyone know if there is there a set standard description for the Acuvue2′s (for the prescription)?

Contact Lenses: What Does This Email Mean?

I emailed my local optician saying:

I am writing to enquire about contact lenses and an appointment I recently made with you. I am considering buying contact lenses from http://www.contactlenses.co.uk/, however I require the Radius/Diameter and Power of each eye.

I would like to discuss with you which contact lenses would be the most suitable for me and all the things I need to know about contact lenses. I believe there is a price to pay for one of the tests, if you could please let me know the price I would appreciate it. I look forward to your reply.

His response

Thanks for your e-mail.

I am away from the practice as I write this, so I am not sure if you are booked in for an eye exam and a contact lens appointment or just a contact lens appointment. If you are not having an eye exam first, you will need to bring a recent spectacle prescription with you. If we are doing an eye exam first (£30 unless you qualify for an NHS test), don’t worry about that.

I do not normally charge for the initial contact lens consultation, which will be an opportunity to assess whether you are suitable and then recommend the best lens type for you.

However, I understand that you were considering buying your lenses online. I would not be able to give you a contact lens prescription after this consultation, as the fitting process is not complete at that point.

The normal procedure (in this instance) is to purchase a minI amum of 3 months supply of lenses from the prescribing optician, including paying for the follow up consultations. Once you have been seen for the initial (free) consultation, there is normally a handling appointment, where you will be taught how to place and remove your lenses, and have instructions given on solutions (if not a daily disposable). There is normally a follow up assessment after about 10 days, at which tI ame any modifications to the original fit can be made, and a further appointment 2 months later, at which the fitting process can usually be considered complete, and a specification issued. This way, if there are any problems with the initial fit, yoyou can come back to me and I can sort it out. An online company will have no interest in taking back a partly used supply of lenses.

Contact lenses online look quite inexpensive because there are no professional fees included, which are paid to the prescribing optician. I charge £30 per appointment.

Most of my many contact lens clients are on a monthly direct debit scheme, which includes lens supply, free replacements for lost or damaged lenses, free exchanges if your prescription alters, and unlI amited aftercare appointments ( I recommend most people are seen every 6 months), but I have others who prefer to pay per appointment and buy their lenses as they need them from our practice, or sometI ames online. The aftercare is the same regardless of how the lens purchase is made.

So, can I buy my contact lenses from http://www.contactlenses.co.uk/ and get it sorted from hI am? Thanks.

What Does 'med' Mean on My Contact Lens Prescription?

Where it says BC (base curve) on my prescription it only says ‘med’, no numbers. The prescription is for acuvue oasys and I’m trying to order lenses and need to know what med means? And also if the diameter on my prescription says 14.2 and the lenses are only offered in 14 do you think that will be okay? Thanks!
Agreed footprintz. The 14.2 was referring to another prescrip for biomeds and thats a whole nother rant but yes, still irritating about the med…

Whats Supposed to Be Included in a Contact Lens Fitting?

I just had mines, and they only gave me the prescription (without the base curve, diameter). They didn’t give me the slip to take to stores when i want to buy the lens myself. Oh yeah, and since the prescription is different for both my eyes (od=-3,os= -2.75), they gave me -2.75 for both eyes (i actually prefer it that way); can i also buy only the -2.75s in stores with my actual prescription (-3.-2.75)?
thanks

Does Anyone Wear Colored Contact Lenses?

I just bought a new set of prescribed colored contact lenses from FreshLook. I know from freshlook that the base curve and the diameter always stays the same. But when I wore it . . .

I couldn’t see clearly. It was very cloudy like when you have an eye booger in your eye, and it’s disturbing your vision. I saw it like that.

I went in to see my eye doctor. She didn’t tell me what was wrong except she made me try on Acuvue’s colored contacts. It was still the same, I think.

Has anyone experienced this before? If so, what did you do to correct it?

Can You Use a Previous Contact Lens Box As a Prescription to Buy a New One?

I lost the prescription paper. I use the contact lenses brand ACUVUE so if you use that too, that’s a good reference; the box says the power I need, the curve, and the diameter.

Can I use it to buy new contacts?
