I am getting contacts soon (less than a week) and i want to know what i should expect to happen. What exactly happens during a contact lens fitting? Do they check the size of your eye and curve and sutff? How…with what tools? also, what’s going to happen after the exam is over…do i get to try contacts on right after or do i have to revisit so that they can get the rigth size and shape contacts? In other words, would they necessarily have the contacts for my size in their inventory or do they have to order them and i have to go again? also, my optometrist i believe gives a month of contacts, but i think they charge for it…instead could i print out a coupon for a free trial pair from acuvue? can i print out more than one? also, how long does it take before i get used to the contacts? Will i eventually be able to put contacts in really quickly? when? also, how does it feel when you first put contacts on and do you know any tricks for putting them in with ease? best answer gets 10points

I have very poor myopia, 8.75 and 9. I also have an astigmatism. My optometrist told me i would have to get custom made lenses and he said they would be expensive but he could not give me an amount. So… How much would custom made coloured contact lenses cost with my prescription and astigmatism, thanks.

i got my contacts with one optometrist like almost a year ago and now i want to get glasses but i don’t want them from that optometrist because they don’t have allot of glasses and i don’t like the ones they have so i was wondering if i can get my prescription from them so i can get my glasses from other optometrist without having to do a vision exam?

Okay so i started wearing contacts and everything is fine. My ONLY issue is that when i put them in for the first time in the morning, my eyes sting for about 30 seconds. They are the Acavue 1 day contacts (so it s a new pack every morning).

I figured it was the solution inside those little packets that were making my eyes sting so this morning i tried dousing the contact with the "opti-free" solution my optometrist gave me. When I put the contacts in my eyes after the dousing with solution I had absolutely no problems.

No stinging or anything.

I just want to know if this is an okay thing to do… I am sort of mixing both the solutions togeahter I guess…

in the end its mostly the opti free on the contacts though.

please tell me if this is okay to do and what exactly causes the stinging if I do not do it..

Any advice would be real nice. So far i have gone to three small eye doctors about my eye allergies or pink eye and none have helped at all. I’m thinking about going to pearl vision but i have a feeling their just going to get me to buy glasses, even though i have a pair already and get me out the door.

It seems like all small eyes doctors just want to charge insurance and get me out as quick as possible. Here is my story.

I went to the first one a year ago when i first starting developing symptoms. He was an optometrist, he did a full exam using the equipment and had me read an eye chart. At the end he prescribed reading glasses, i caught him several times on scottrade’s website while examining me. A month later in my investments class i found out what scottrade was and i realized he was checking his stocks while examining me. At the end i asked him about one vein i had in my eye at the moment, he said it was inflamed conjunctiva and some more doctor jargon then i left. I’m mad to this day that i allowed him to charge my insurance for the glasses that i never wear.

The second eye doc i went to was an ophthalmologist, a glaucoma specialist to be exact. This was about 6 months ago. She did a full exam as the doc i went to before. I asked her about the veins which were worse. LOL, she said she doesn’t see any veins and that only i can see them. I asked her if she was sure about that, she looked again and handed me a elestate sample and a prescription without saying anything else and told me come back in a year.

The third doc i went to was real nice, he was an optometrist. At this point i had to pay for my exam because my insurance wouldn’t cover it and my eyes were much redder. He did a full exam, he even used his new toy that should a picture of the nerves in my eye and matches it to a database of healthy eyes. Anyway at the end, i asked him about my veins. He said "We live in New York, the air is dirty, the veins are carrying more blood to your eyes" I saw his eyes were full of veins but the veins in eyes. I realized that the veins in his eyes didn’t look quite like the ones i have.

I’m not sure where should i go now.

Symptoms
My left eye has a lot of tiny veins on both sides and now my right eye is started to get them.

My left eyes itches and it also my top corner eyelid is always twitching now.

When the veins first starting appearing in my right eye, the corner near my tear duct was throbbing incredibly hard.

My left eye always feels like there is something in it. I use to wake up in the morning and the vision in my left eye would be blurry and i then realized there was some clear mucus in my eye. That has stopped now.

Okay, so I got my first pair of contact lenses last month, and my optometrist gave a Opti-Free starter kit, which included everything, even a cute carrying bag. He then tells me that he only recommends using either Opti-Free or Bausch and Lomb contant lens solution because store and generic brands are not trustworthy. Well, i am now out of solution, went to go buy another bottle and realized how expensive they are! The Equate (walmart band) is a third of what Opti Free costs and I am on a tight budget! Is it okay to use this once?

If I wanted to get an eye exam who would I call? The Vision Center or the Optometrist at Walmart? How much will a typical eye exam cost?

My sister and I both got contacts there at separate times. They gave me the most expensive contacts and gave her the cheaper ones. Can I choose which brand of contacts I want?

ok, so at my latest eye exam, my doctor suggested I get bifocals. The thing is I’m only 23 and really think they were just trying to get me to spend more money on my new glasses. So I asked the optometrist what the difference would be if I didnt get bi-focals and just got a pair of glasses for distance. She said it would work fine, but that it would take me time to get used to reading and being in front of a computer, since that would be close up. So I got just the single distance lenses today and I’m noticing that my peripheral vision is blurry, but that when I look at something straight on, it’s perfectly clear. Does anyone know if this is normal and that my eyes will just adjust? Or should I go back to the optometrist cause I might have made a bad choice?

They are exactly the same lenses in the same packaging so why are they so expensive in my optometrist’s store? Is it safe to buy them online? I was wondering if you printed one of those eye charts with the big E on top and then lines of letters, posted it on the wall, and then stood back, you could determine your own vision. If so, how would you do that? I can tell my vision is good, but I was curious if it was better than 20/20 and don’t want to waste money going to an optometrist to find out.

I’ve worn contact lenses for a few years. For my most recent check-up, I switched to an opthamologist who does not work with an optician. The opthamologist says that the prescription he gave me can get me contact lenses (as well as glasses), but he did not explain how. With my old optometrist, he’d examine my eyes, have me try a pair of contacts and then I’d order them in his office.

(because when I get it done at an optometrist I get better vision scores)

(when I sprint I run REALLY fast, faster than the other runners with me – but I tire out quickly;
when I jog I can run a long time, but am slower)

a couple years back, it was a very stressful time and I wasn’t thinking straight and got really frustrated and strained the area on the right side of my face above my eye etc, I did it a few different occasions and well I felt really sick then after and really dizzy and had trouble seeing and talking and my right eye was down and my face looked dead on that side, I had a lot of trouble thinking too like thinking really slowly as well as feeling like I would throw up when trying to use the computer, horrible headaches, then when trying to sleep it felt like the muscles in my head grinding or something from being strained, i noticed my right ear moving (from the muscles around it i believe), my jaw muscles or something started locking at night in an open position (kind of springy, up and down but couldn’t close) which i think caused some tmj like problems, I also had horrible chest pain and shortness of breath at rest or after exercising, i felt pain during exercise too it was a struggle to go exercise but i felt better then than when not exercising, i think the chest pain is muscular as it felt like the muscles were going around my pecs up towards my neck and around the ears, prob from straining the muscles so much, my neck and jaw muscles have been getting weaker, i have taken a lot of warm baths over the last couple years and ice packs and was sleeping a lot, and my face looks better but still kinda bad especially if not getting tons of sleep, the muscles (esp face, neck, jaw, chest, feel very weak when not getting lots of sleep), some of the other things have improved too but i’m still having problems, i’m wearing a splint for tmj because i have muscle spasms around the jaw, neck etc, does anyone have any advice on doctors to see or things to have checked? any exams or scans, maybe for facial trauma? or serious things to rule out that could have happened? I have had a chest xray, basic blood tests (cbc?), checkup with neurologist, head/brain mri?, optometrist vision exam, or any tips for improving muscle weakness esp around jaw, face, neck chest, i am mainly concerned now with that, the shortness of breath, trouble talking, jaw muscle spasms and my facial appearance still looks kinda bad on the right side around the eye and that area, stress makes the muscles spasm more and causes them to be weaker but it’s not the main cause, it all started when i did that to my head, i continued to keep going and exercise which could have made things worse, and there was a lot of fighting in my house and yelling so i could have strained even more my neck or jaw, and made the muscles spasm and get weaker and worse, but now things are better and i want to get help so i can be 100% again, any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

other symptoms i was having
-muscles pulling around my ears, into neck and chest, feeling of zoning out
- while putting warm towels on my muscles, i could really almost feel the outline of the muscles around the ear and down neck, to chest, and was really short of breath
-weak chest muscles

i don’t think it is really bells palsy, it was just that my face looked dead, and my right eye was down about an inch or so prob maybe less

I have glasses for near-sightedness and I have begun wearing them all the time, not only when they’re required. I have been told that this could be damaging to my eyes. I plan to bring this up with my optometrist at my next eye exam but I would like a (relatively) quick answer before then.
I don’t get any eye or headaches when reading up close or anything like that, but I don’t know if that has any bearing on anything.

I can’t read most of the lines with my left eye because I have awful vision in it; 20/200. This is my first appointment with this optometrist, and he doesn’t know how bad my vision is in that one eye. Also, do I wear my contacts to my appointment?
