Is Pupil Dilatation Done Before or After the Eye Exam?

Hello, I just need some clarification. I know that pupil dilatation allows an optometrist see all the way into the back of the eye to make sure the eyes are healthy. My question: Is the optometrist supposed to do that once the eye exam is done, or before?? I will appreciate your help!

How Much Would a Fitting Exam for a Free Pair of Contacts Cost?

The contacts I wear now dry out too quickly and are irritating to my eyes. I found coupons online for free trial pairs of contact lenses. If I take these coupons to the optometrist, would I be required to pay the like 75 dollar fee for a contact lens examination and everything?? Also, would it be alright if i brought in multiple coupons? I really really want to find a brand that can work for me.

    THANKSS

Just Had an Eye Exam and Had My Eyes Dilated, Is Blurry Vision Normal?

I just had an eye exam with the optometrist at Lenscrafters and she said my eyes were doing fine and that my vision only changed a very slight amount so my contacts are all-but-the-same. However, wearing this new pair of contacts, close vision is extremely blurry. Like, I can’t read my phone at all. Even looking at the PC monitor is a little weird. But I can read far away perfectly. Please tell me this is a side effect of the dilation, because I’m freaking out.
"Those drops paralyze the muscles that allow your eyes to focus up close. You will notice your pupils are huge also….but that will get better."

They didn’t go into that much detail. They told me my vision might be a little off and I got a hide home, but they never specified that my closeup vision would be completely off. That’s why I’m scared.

How Common Is It for Vision in One Eye to Improve for a 30-year-old Person?

My prescription has remained consistent at -3.75 for every eye exam I’ve had since I was a teenager, (at multiple optometrists). That is, until now. My latest eye exam (at a new optometrist) resulted in a prescription that is LESS strong for one of my eyes. How common is it for vision to actually improve at this age? Is it more likely that I just wasn’t very accurate when comparing the "which is better" choices during my exam?

        Thanks!

What's the Difference Between an Optometrist and an Opthalmologist?

My mother-in-law insists that I should see an opthalmologist for my next contact lens/glasses prescription. Until now, I’ve only seen optometrists. Can I go to an opthalmologist if I’m only going for shortsightedness? Or do you have to have a more serious eye complaint? Thanks for your help.
Since I’m very gratefully receiving answers from both opthalmologists and optometrists, please let me know this: I’ve been wearing contacts for 20 years. In the last couple of months, I’ve been experiencing irritation/grittiness in my right eye whenever I wear my contacts and the right eye stings (back of eyelid) when I put the lens in. Do I see an opthalmologist or an optometrist about this? If it weren’t for this problem, I’d simply go to the optometrist for my next contact/glasses script. Thanks for the clarification.

Is There a Big Difference Between 8.3 and 8.6 Base Curve in Contact Lenses?

My contact lens prescription is 8.3 base curve, 14.0 diameter and -3.25 strength. Can I wear contacts that have an 8.6 base curve comfortably and safely, or will they slide around/effect my vision? I’ve been wearing contacts since I was about 10, so I know how to take care of them, etc, and I know that a 14.0 diameter is much different than a 14.5 or a 15.0 because my optometrist had me try on the different sizes to see the difference, but he never mentioned base curve to me.

Thanks so much for your input!

Need Help for Toric Contact Lenses..please…anyone..?

My glasses prescription is R: -4.00/-1.00×160
          L: -5.00/-1.00×20
The optometrist suggested me wearing toric contact lenses with
          R: -3.75/-0.75×160
          L: -4.75/-0.75×20
since -1.00cyl is not in the contact lens range.

.She said my sph needed to be reduced 0.25 because contact lens is much closer to the eye. But,since the cyl for both eyes are reduced 0.25 too, based on my experience, the sph for both eyes should be increased to cover the astigmatism.

Even in the previous non-toric contact lens prescription, the optometrist added just another 0.25 to my sph to cover the -1.00 cyl.

          But,it didn’t turn out well.

so,this time,I’m not sure with her prescription. I think it should be R: -4.00/-0.75×160
          L: -5.00/-0.75×20

what do you think?…help please…I’m gonna where the lenses for 1 year,so I need to make sure.

          Optometrist Won't Give Prescription !?

I went to an IRIS optometrist and got an eye exam which i payed 95$. Than i asked for a contact lens fitting which he charged 50$. He gave me a sample set of contacts to try and i asked for my contact lens prescription. He said he couldn’t give me my contact lens prescription because that information is classified. He gave me the contacts without the box in another case. I was wondering if he is legally required to give me my prescription since i payed for it and considering that they charge 60-70$ per box, when other places charge oly15-20$ per box? thank you!!

Changing Conact Lens Brands: How to Convert – SAG to BC?

I am refilling my contact lenses but the optometrist I went to wouldn’t give me my full prescription unless I paid extra to go with their "trial" contacts and buy only from them.

So I’m looking to switch to another brand like Acuvue but the SAG & BC numbers are different, is there a way to convert?

          From old box: Prescription= SAG = 3.75, Dia = 14.1
          New Prescription = -5.50/-5.75, Cylinder = -0.75

Acuvue asks for either a 8.3 or 8.7 BC. Is there a way to convert?

          Thanks.
          Edit: Box prescription=-5.00

          Contact Lens and Glasses Question?

I’ve been getting my contact lens from an optometrist for two years now. However, I have moved to the city and I was wondering if I can use my same prescription at a new optometrist or if I need to do another eye examine to get a new prescription.
Also, a screw fell out of one of my frames, and one of the lenses came out. Can they put a new screw in free of charge or will it cost anything. I don’t really care if it does, I was just wondering.

Can I Buy Just One Eye's Worth of Contacts Lenses Online?

I wear soft, aspheric lenses. I have the same Power (-3.25) in both eyes, the same Base Curve (8.7) and the same Diameter (14.3). When you come to the check out on nearly every contact lens sight it doubles the amount of money so you’re buying one lot for both eyes. However, if I have exactly the same prescription, surely I can just buy an L or R set (those who have bought online will know what I’m on about).

Another thing too… even though I’m wearing aspheric lenses, my optometrist says that my astigmatism is very mild. Does this mean that I can get away with just normal lenses?

I’m also looking for some lenses that are aspheric, but coloured.

          Loads of questions/requests, I know.
          Thanks in advance!

          Lucy..

Question About Extended Wear Contact Lenses.?

I’m going to buy the acuvue 2 contact lenses from 1800contacts, and am going to be trying them for extended use.

"Acuvue 2 is designed to be worn as a two-week daily wear lens (which means you take the lenses out each night). These contacts can also be worn as a one-week extended wear lens (which means yoyou can sleep in them)."

^ This is a line from the website, showing that it can be used as 1week extended use contacts.

          My questions are:
1- Will the contacts come off in the shower?
2- I will wear them at night, so I’ve heard the rumors of it getting stuck in the back of your eye, but my optometrist says its just a rumor and there is a membrane behind my eye so it couldn’t, so nothing to worry about when sleeping right?
3-Can i carry over days? Like i could wear the contacts 4 days in a row take them out and wear the same pare a day later for 3 more days to add up to the seven day total?

          Thanks, help is appreciated.

I Want Some Contact Lens Trials Before Purchasing. How Can I Do That?

Can I go to, say Walmart, and get my vision tested for contact lenses, then tell the optometrist that I want to try several different contact lenses first?

I know I have to pay for the vision test, but will I have to pay every single tI ame I get a new trial pair from a new company? Or can I use the same prescription? (considering I get the trial pairs from the same Walmart vision center)

Can I Wear Any Brand of Contact Lens?

My friend has told me that I have to wear the brand that my Dr. prescribed because they measured my eyes and that would be the best fit. But I read somewhere that soft lens conform to the shape of your eye so it doesn’t really matter. It probably just matters the size of your pupil with the contacts. So I’m wondering, can I just wear any brand of contacts as long as they’re my prescription power?
My optometrist has recommended Freshlooks but I don’t really like them. I think they recommend Freshlook to almost everyone. That’s the only pamphlet I see in the office. I’m currently using Acuvue and Expressions colors. I’m asking about whether it’s safe to use any brand I choose against my doctor’s suggestion.

Can Anyone Tell Me About Contact Lenses?

I want to get some but my dad says that they are too expensive, that they get lost real easily, ect. But he doesn’t really know much about them either. My main problem with my eyesight is that I can’t see far away and my optometrist said I have an astigmatism or something. What would be the best kind to buy (e.x. hard lens, soft lens, disposable)?

I got a trial pair of contacts from my optometrist and I need to buy them offline so I can save money. The information I have is not really leading me to an exact site for the exact kind I need. On the top it says Comfilcon Dk128 Toric. Contents: One tinted soft contact lens (comfilcon A 52%, H20 48%) in buffered solution. It is made my CooperVision. Can anyone tell me what name brand it is or the site I can get it from? An exact link to my contact would be appreciated. Also does anyone know where I can purchase a trial pair for cheap of any brand?

Are There Contact Lens Prescriptions That Are Not Available Because So Few Have Them?

My friend has had Myopia (Near Sighted) since she was a kid. She has worn contacts most of her life and now that she’s getting older she’s losing some of her near sight as well.

Anyway she has gone to 3 different optometrist’s who all say they don’t make the prescription that she needs. The better they make the distance the worse the close gets and vice versa. She pretty much resigned herself to not being able to see clearly.

I don’t know jack about Optometry but find it hard to believe that with close to 7 billion people on the planet that they dont make a her prescription. There must be others with that prescription and I find it hard to believe they’ve given up seeing clearly. I suspect they just don’t carry the prescription she needs because its not cost effective.

Are there prescriptions they just dont make????

What Is My Contacts Lens Prescription (based on Eye Measurements)?

My optometrist (which, by the way, I hired specifically to give me a contact lenses prescription) has refused to release a prescription to prevent me from buying contacts elsewhere (outside of his Office). I am unaware whether or not it is illegal for hI am to refuse to give me a prescription, but after months of following up with hI am about it, his secretary gave me the following eye measurements, which I can’t decipher into a prescription. Can anyone tell me what my Contact Lense prescription is based on these measurements?

          K-
          OD: 7.99 7.81 x 29
          OS: 8.06 8.00 x 54
