Is This Expensive for an RGP Contact Lens?

I’ve been treated for Kerataconus for many years and the cost of one of my lenses has skyrocketed so I’m looking for possible alternatives.

I wear RGP (hard lenses) that can last for years. The lens for my worst eye costs 5 and my doctor has basically told me I have to buy them through his practice. He says he won’t even give prescriptions to his patients because they come back with problems from buying cheaper lenses. This and the fact he runs an upmarket practice makes me wonder if he’s not just trying to get even richer but he is an expert in the Kerataconus field and has always provided me great results so I probably should leave well enough alone. I just can’t help wondering if I could get a much cheaper lens.

If FMJ sees this, my condition has barely changed in the last 5 years but I am keen for an alternative to CL. I do have near perfect vision with CL, I am just sick of the irritations that come with them. Normal wear doesn’t bother me at all, it’s just the dust getting in while you’re driving sort of scenario that bugs me. I’ve discussed all the other possibilities with my doctor though and CL seems to still be the best option. Hopefully C3R will be the answer soon. As you say I think they are still in trial stages here.
So there’s more to it than just having the prescription and a big CL retailer is unlikely to be able to produce what i require? My lenses can last for years but I damaged one after only 8 months and am trying to avoid having to shell out 500 bucks for a new one but at least going through my optometrist i get 6 months warranty in case it doesn’t fit properly.

Did I Get the Correct Eye Glasses and Contact Lens Prescriptions?

6 months ago I went to a new eye doctor. I hadn’t been to the optometrist in 5 years. All I know from my old prescription was Right SPH: -1.25 and Left SPH: -1.75 and I have an astigmatism. I had no problems except at night things were a little blurrier and my glasses broke.

The new doctor "inherited" my file and after an examination (machine test and he checked them out) said my eyes had gotten better, but the astigmatism worsened. He said that my new vision was Right) SPH: -1.00; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 174 and Left) SPH: -1.25, CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 14. However he wrote me a lower prescription. SPH was -0.75 (right) and -1.00 (left). He told me that my eyes would get worse if I had the stronger prescription. At first, it was slightly harder to see with these new glasses. But I think I’ve gotten used to them and my old glasses seem a little strong and I can definitely tell the difference in astigmatism correction.

Yesterday, I went in for a contact lens fitting and the pair he gave me to try out are weaker than my glasses. The prescription for the contact lens read a little differently than the glasses. Instead of "SPH" they say "D". The contact lens prescription is as follows Right) D; -0.50; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 170 and Left) D: -0.75; CYL: -0.75; AXIS: 10. I told my doctor that it’s harder to see even though I can "read the letters on the wall". I want to make sure I’m getting the right prescriptions. I know I have a relatively low prescription. I’m a 28 year old male in good health with no history or medical issues.

Thanks in advance.

My Contact Lens Prescription Is the Same in Both Eye, Is That Common?

Some people I know with contact lenses have different prescriptions for each eye and so they have to be careful with contact to put in which eye, but I can put any contact in any eye because I have the same prescription in both eye, is that normal or uncommon?

What Is the Best Deal for Eye Glasses / Contact Lens?

Prescriptions for Contact Lens which expires every year, Eye Glasses Prescription expires every two years. I had my eye exams in 2007.
Okey, I still have plenty of contact lenses that I could use since I only wear then when I work out, however I need a new prescription for my eye glasses since the lens is 5 years old and all scratched up.

I am looking at prices on both eye exam, and Eye Glasses Frame prices at two different locations. Eye Glass World, and Sam’s Club.

1) Prescription for Contact lens and Glasses cost 0 (both Places), or if just for Glasses would be (Eye Glass World).
SHOULD I JUST DO AN EXAM FOR GLASSES PRESCRIPTION ONLY?

2) At The Eye Glass World has a promotion for buy one (9 up) get one free, or Two for lI amited selection FRAME Price. Or they have a kind of lens that function as regular glasses and sunglasses as it hit UV light.. cost about 0. Plus Lens would be about 0. I have not looked at the prices at Sam’s. I NEED BOTH REGULAR GLASSES AND SUN GLASSES.

NOT SURE WHERE TO BUY THE DEAL FROM, AND GET A PRESCRIPTION FROM.

ADICE PLEASE?

Is There a Huge Differenct Between a -8.0 and a -8.5 Contact Lens Prescription?

I recently went to the eye doctor for a new prescription becuase my eyesight had been really blurry. The doctor told me I have dry eyes and gave me eye drops to use, and since ive been using them my vision is so much clearer. However, she still gave me a trial pair of contacts in the next higher prescription, -8.5( i had a -8). I am not really sure if i should continue wearing the lower one, becuase i havent had many problems with them while using the eye drops, or go for the -8.5 prescription, becuase, obviously, i do see a little clearer with them. But I am just afraid that theyd be too strong, and cause my eyes to have problems. Is the difference in the prescriptions enough to warrant changing to the higher one, or should I stick with the old one?
I do have a recheck scheduled for next week, and I am gonna wear the new one till then. So far, i’d say the new prescription is clearest, i was just kinda worried because she did say that my "real prescription" is in between -8 and -8.5, which is why i was afraid of -8.5 being to strong

How Important Is a .25 (astigmatism) Contact Lens Prescription?

My brother got a lens prescription with only one eye showing some astigmatism: Cylinder -0.25 (Axis 85)

Since the lowest increment with prescriptions is .25 (e.g., 1.25, 1.50, 1.75… etc) I was wondering how I amportant it is that I get hI am toric lenses for that eye (i.e. for astigmatism).

Problem is most companies sell toric lenses starting with .50 or .75 (cylinder), and also the idea of buying two types of lenses (normal and toric) is off-putting.
Custom made lenses are one solution but too expensive.
I should also note that, in the past, I’ve ordered myself lenses that were .25 off from my prescription in cylinder and power, and it made no difference to me.

So bottom line: should I ignore the -.25 astigmatism and just order normal lenses?
Expert or informed opinions please.

Colored Contact Lenses?

Why is the regular contact lens prescription different than the prescription for colored contact lenses? Also what is the difference between the two prescriptions? Meaning, can you put a number on how much the prescription is going to change converting to colored contacts? example: my regular old clean contacts are at a -5.25 so my colored contacts would be?
clear not clean lol…

Is It Okay to Wear Contact Lenses if the Eye Power Is Lower Than Your Previous Contact Lenses?

My eye power has been the same for the last 2 years. My left eye is -6.00 and my right eye is -5.25. I have always worn contacts with this prescription.

Recently I went to the doctor to get new prescriptions to refill my contacts. When I got my contacts, I realized my new prescription contacts is now -5.50 (left) and -5.00 (right). Did the doctor make an error, or is it still safe to wear them even though they are a tiny bit lower in vision power?

Thanks!

Difference Between Left and Right Colour Contact Lenses?

I am looking at purchasing some Freshlook Colorblends contact lenses on line. These are purely for cosmetic reasons. All the websites have an order form for each eye – ie. one box for left eye and one for right. I was wondering if the actual contact lenses are made differently for each eye OR is this form of ordering generally used for people with different prescriptions in each eye?

If I were to buy one 2-Pack Colorblends would I be able to use one in each eye from the same pack?

Odd Contact Lens Prescription?

I love my new Frequency 55 soft toric contact lenses and would like to continue to wear them. However.. I am not able to order contacts online because of my "odd" prescription. It seems that yoyou can only enter multiples of 10 for your prescription numbers.
For example: On every single website I went to, yoyou can only enter 170 or 180 for the axis. The axis on my left eye is 175. Same problem with my sphere, the lowest number I found on any site is .75, my sphere is.25. What is up with this? My optometrist said my lenses would be a box from their store. I do not want to pay that much.. but I go online to ANY contact lens website and I can’t even enter my numbers. I have a different RX in each eye and very bad astigmatism.
Are these websites made only for people who have "normal" prescriptions? Should I call these sites and ask? I am not about to pay 0 for 2 boxes of lenses at the optometrist!

What Happens if You Wear Prescription Contact Lenses That Aren't Your Prescription?

My brothers have contacts lenses with prescriptions higher then mine, I was wondering if I could try them on and see what they look like on me, but what would happen besides that everything I see would be blurry. Will something bad happen to my eye? Also I’m trying to convince my asian parents to let me wear contacts , non prescripted, but they say I’m too young, I’m 13, and I can take care of myself…

I’m trying to buy contacts cheaper online here because the price of buying them from my doctor is getting crazy. The size where it says diamater is 14.2, while the ones online are only available in 14.5, but all the other measurments and prescriptions add up. Will this be a big problem or could I still wear them?
