A Contact Lens Comfort Question and What Is Your Opinion on These Lens Brands?
I have very poor eyesight. My prescription is -12.5S and -14.25D (this is the contact-lens version of my current glasses prescription). I am currently on a trial pare of CIBA Focus Monthlies with my eye doctor. They seem okay at first, but throughout the day I get halos around things sometimes through my right eye, and my left one sometimes moves off of my eye. I’ve been wearing them on and off for a couple weeks now.
The reason I keep taking them off is because they get dry and itchy. Originally I used Opti-free cleansor to find that my eyes would burn horribly whenever they got wet so I switched to Complete and they seem to be fine but neither has helped the dryness or itchiness. We’ve tried a special overnight solution that cleans any protein or calcium off of them but with no difference in results. I’ve also gotten prescription eye drops which helped slightly with the itchiness, but not the dryness at all… My vision with the contacts gets worse throughout the day as do the halos on the right and moving on the left.
Are they moving/blurry because of the dryness, or could it be something else?
I have read that these brands of contacts are good for dryness. Do you have any experience with them? (I don’t want them to tear while in my eyes..)
CIBA O2Optix and Night & Day,
Purevision from Bausch & Lomb,
Johnson & Johnson Acuvue Advance and
Coopervision’s Proclear.
Thank you very very much. (My doctor has suggested the O2Optix, but says there is no warranty on them. They are 0 and if they don’t work, I’m out that money. I cannot go to another doctor because she is the only one in my area covered under my insurance.)

If I Buy a Tamron Lens Off EBay, What Will Happen with the Warranty?
Alright, I’m planning to buy the Tamron 90mm Macro from seller "digital-rev-access" on eBay.
It comes with a seven year Mack international warranty. According to Mack (the company that provides the warranty) the lens needs to have a valid manufacturer’s warranty of at least 90 days for the Mack warranty to be valid. What I can’t seem to find out, is will the lens come with a manufacturer’s warranty at all?
PS: I live in Canada… I can’t find any contact info for Tamron Canada.
And unfortunately, buying locally is not an option… The cheapest price I can find is 9+tax… 6 – close to 0 more than eBay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is This Expensive for an RGP Contact Lens?
I’ve been treated for Kerataconus for many years and the cost of one of my lenses has skyrocketed so I’m looking for possible alternatives.
I wear RGP (hard lenses) that can last for years. The lens for my worst eye costs 5 and my doctor has basically told me I have to buy them through his practice. He says he won’t even give prescriptions to his patients because they come back with problems from buying cheaper lenses. This and the fact he runs an upmarket practice makes me wonder if he’s not just trying to get even richer but he is an expert in the Kerataconus field and has always provided me great results so I probably should leave well enough alone. I just can’t help wondering if I could get a much cheaper lens.
If FMJ sees this, my condition has barely changed in the last 5 years but I am keen for an alternative to CL. I do have near perfect vision with CL, I am just sick of the irritations that come with them. Normal wear doesn’t bother me at all, it’s just the dust getting in while you’re driving sort of scenario that bugs me. I’ve discussed all the other possibilities with my doctor though and CL seems to still be the best option. Hopefully C3R will be the answer soon. As you say I think they are still in trial stages here.
So there’s more to it than just having the prescription and a big CL retailer is unlikely to be able to produce what i require? My lenses can last for years but I damaged one after only 8 months and am trying to avoid having to shell out 500 bucks for a new one but at least going through my optometrist i get 6 months warranty in case it doesn’t fit properly.

Do the Major Contact Lens Retailers Sell Lenses for Kerataconus Patients?
If you suffer from Kerataconus or know someone that does and you/they wear contact lenses to correct it, have you bought lenses from a major retailer (in Australia) and were there any problems and any warranty?
Specifically I want to know if any sell post graft aspheric lenses. I just called one place and the guy had no idea what I was talking about.
