What Is "normal" When First Starting to Wear Contact Lenses?
I just started wearing contacts. I see pretty clearly with them in but things start looking more hazy/blurred as tI ame goes by, like after a couple hours. What is normal when you first start wearing them? Is there an adjustment period you have to get through before they really make things look clear? Also, I’d swear sometI ames things look clearer close up but looking in the distance is more blurred. I got my regular glasses from the same eye doctor and my regular glasses work great. Please let me know what it was like when you first started using contacts? Does it get better if you keep wearing them, or are real glasses the only way to see very clearly.
Uhhh, rockergurl.. I’m in my 30′s….

I’ve been weraing contact lenses for over 12 years now and yes after a few hours of wear things do get a bit blurry, but a couple of blinks and you’re right again. I think it’s just a bit of build up on the lenses or they may get a bit dry.
I still think my glasses offer me better vision and I can’t wait to get my lenses off and my glasses back on at the end of the day. Lenses have their uses and but I really do prefer my glasses.
I just got contacts in January an I know exactly what you mean by things looking hazy/blurry. I had the same problem. My optometrist told me to cut down the amount of time I wore my contacts and eventually my eyes would adjust. It just takes time. I can wear my contacts for 20 hrs with no problems now. Hang in there, it is so worth it!
I had the same problem, about 13 years ago. I decided to splurge and get contact lenses. I wore them for about a month. They got blurry, and then they got clear, and then once or twice the little buggers folded in half while I was driving (Lots of fun!)
You have to clean them and soak them and use sterile solution and I had all these chemicals and containers and cleaning doo-hickeys.
Mostly they gave me the uncontrollable compulsion to go out and have a radial kerototomy performed on both eyes. That completely solved the problem, and I’ve been ocularly happy, ever since. The newer laser based surgeries are even better and more reliable then the primitive procedure that was available to me in 1994.
I have worn them for 10+ years. There is no adjustment period except learning to put them in and out properly
One thing, they may be drying out and distorting. I notice this sometimes on a dry day or in the car with the heater blowing in my face or if it is windy. Try using rewetting drops. If it helps then that is it. Proper contacts are as good as glasses. It may be that the prescription is off a little. and as your eye muscles get tired they can’t continue to focus. Talk to your eye doctor about this.
FYI. Instead of bifocals, I wear one for close and one for distance. That works for me, but not everyone. It took about five minutes to get used to them. I wear acuvue2 and use complete for rinsing, storing, and re wetting.
i was talking about this to my mom and she said probably about when you think you are your child are responsible enough for this! i suggest the age 14!
good luck!

I just got them too… I have noticed the same thing. I suppose that it is just one of the trade offs of going to contacts.. I still like them better than glasses. I have worn glasses for 26 years and wish I would have changed years ago..
I had the same problem. I have had contacts for about three years now. They told me when I first got mine that you have to trian your eyes to them. The first day 2 hours, then 4, then 6, and so on for the better part of 2 weeks. If your doctor didn’t have you do this that could be your problem and I would start taking them out and wearing your glass when they become blurry. Also make sure you use the same solution, that can cause some problems too.
