What’s the Difference Between Double Vision and a Astigmatism?

Take it easy. They are very, very different things
Double vision is really seeing double. You see 2 things, and this would make your life unbearable. Imagine trying to read your screen with two screens popping up! This is a serious problem and must be diagnosed fast!
If you try to get very technical, wikipedia defines astigmatism as
" two perpendicular planes have different foci. If an optical system with astigmatism is used to form an image of a cross, the vertical and horizontal lines will be in sharp focus at two different distances"
Basically, astigmatism is an irregularity in the surface of the cornea. Nothing serious. Its like trying to (again using your screen) look at your computer through an irregularly shaped glass. You can see it. Not clearly, but you can see it. Astigmatism is blamed for blurry vision. Astigmatism is easily corrected.
Just type your questions, astigmatism and double vision in the link below.
Double vision is literally seeing two of any image. It can be caused by a variety of things. Astigmatism is a vision problem caused by a distortion of the lens – would not usually in itself cause double vision. Ask your local optometrist where you get your glasses to have a look at your eyes – their equipment is pretty sophisicated.
Astigmatism is when the surface of your eye is shaped more like a footbal rather than a basketball. Basically the surface of your eye (the cornea) does not bend light equally in all directions, which in turn, light does not focus properly on the retina causing blurred vision. I.E.: If you cut a clear round ball in 1/2 and held it in front of your eye looking through it, everything would be pretty clear. If you squeezed it into a football shape everything would sort of distort. Hope that makes sense! Double vision or Diplopia, however, is nothing like astigmatism at all. This is a totally different vision problem. This is when one object is seen as two objects. It will normally disappear when one eye is covered. And it’s mostly caused when the two eyes are misaligned and aim at different targets.
i have astigmatism and its the same as blurry vision…double vision is more serious
