Why Do People with Astigmatism Have to Get Clear Lenses?
Yes I have astigmatism & I heard that yoyou can only get clear contact lenses. I want to know why?
And what if I wanted to get a box of colored ones too, would they work or no?
And by clear lenses I ment the ones for astigmatism.

It’s a mass market thing… Contacts become cheaper (and easier to market) when any particular version (power/material/fit/colour) can be sold in thousands and thousands.
But an astigmatic lens not only has an extra power, it has a particular axis direction. That divides up the potential market drastically and dividing that by a set of colours makes it worse by a factor of three, four, five…
Outside a limited range of fits, colours and astigmatic powers, it’s not likely to be commercially viable.
Depending on the amount of your astigmatism, your prescriber may be able to suggest a compromise spherical Rx that would give you "good enough" vision for social occasions such as parties, which could be done in coloured contacts.
Personally I’m old-fashioned: I tend to prefer a person’s natural eye colour, whatever it is.
And I’ve looked at an awful lot of eyeballs.
There are colored lenses for astigmatism, but the powers available are quite limited.
Freshlook Toric colors.
As far as toric lenses go ( for astigmatism)…they aren’t all that good a lens for most people.
There are also Durasoft 2& 3 color torics that come in most prescriptions, but they are a conventional lens, ( non-disposable)..they are expensive and tear easy….and aren’t a very healthy lens to wear compared to disposables.
If you require special toric lenses for your astigmatism, but get lenses that aren’t…then you just won’t be seeing very well with them, so what’s the point ?
If your astigmatism isn’t within the parameters of the Freshlook Color torics, then you will just have to be happy with what you were born with…sorry.
I also have an astigmatism. It depends on your eyesight level. Very few companies actually make colored contact Lens for astigmatisms. and even fewer make them for such high numbers. There are 4 choices:
1: you can get low numbered colored contacts for astigmatisms. You won’t be able to see completely nobly but it is a choice for sometimes.
2: You can get regular colored contacts and wear them under your glasses.
3: You can get your level colored contacts just with out astigmatism
4: You can get clear colored contacts for astigmatisms in your level and send them to colored companies that will have the contacts colored for the color you want, this may cost 110s of dollars but mine were worth it! and only cost $365 total for 2 pairs.
The majority of disposable lenses for astigmatism are only available in clear or visitint (light blue so that you can see them in the solution). You can get conventional lenses made that are coloured and usually cost $50 more (each lens) than clear or visitint lenses.
